Crosby scoreless as Penguins fall
Alex Pietrangelo beat Marc-Andre Fleury with less than a minute to go in overtime to lift the St. Louis Blues past the Penguins, 3-2, last night in Pittsburgh.
Sidney Crosby went scoreless in his second game back from concussion-related symptoms as the Blues won despite blowing a pair of one-goal leads.
Scott Nichol and Jamie Langenbrunner also scored for the Blues. Brian Elliott stopped 31 shots.
James Neal scored his 13th goal of the season for Pittsburgh and Steve Sullivan collected his third. Fleury made 40 saves for the Penguins, but Pittsburgh failed to play with the electricity that highlighted Crosby’s season debut in a win over the New York Islanders on Monday.
Crosby played more than 18 minutes and spent an additional six in the penalty box.
Canadiens 4, Hurricanes 3 - Brian Gionta scored the lone goal in the shootout to lead visiting Montreal’s victory, which snapped Carolina’s two-game winning streak.
Montreal rallied from a two-goal deficit after Carolina’s Jiri Tlusty and Anthony Stewart scored first-period goals for the Hurricanes.
Flyers 4, Islanders 3 - Danny Briere scored his second goal of the game with 2:26 remaining in overtime, giving Philadelphia a come-from-behind victory in Uniondale, N.Y.
Andrej Meszaros and Scott Hartnell also scored for Philadelphia, which snapped a two-game skid and handed the Islanders their eighth loss in 10 games.
Devils 2, Blue Jackets 1 - Martin Brodeur stopped 35 shots and made two more saves in the shootout to lead New Jersey over visiting Columbus.
Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise scored in the shootout for the Devils and Brodeur made a glove save on Rick Nash and a body save on Mark Letestu to ice the win.
Capitals 4, Jets 3 - Jason Chimera scored his second goal of the game, at 1:52 of overtime, to give host Washington the win over Winnipeg.
Chimera took a pass from Dennis Wideman and easily redirected it into the open net. Winnipeg’s three-game winning streak came to an end.
Red Wings 5, Flames 3 - Pavel Datsyuk and Valtteri Filppula scored 1:14 apart late in the third period to break a tie and give host Detroit the victory over Calgary.
Tomas Holmstrom had two power-play goals, Datsyuk added two assists, and Ian White had a goal and two assists for Detroit. Nicklas Lidstrom and Jiri Hudler had two assists apiece and Jimmy Howard made 19 saves.
Panthers 2, Rangers 1 - Jason Garrison and Kris Versteeg scored and Jose Theodore stopped 19 shots to lead host Florida to its third straight win.
Derek Stepan scored his fourth goal for New York, which lost a second straight game. Wild 3, Predators 2 - Dany Heatley, Kyle Brodziak, and Cal Clutterbuck scored third-period goals, Josh Harding made 23 saves, and host Minnesota beat Nashville to win its fifth straight.
Stars 3, Kings 2 - Steve Ott scored at 2:56 of overtime, Loui Eriksson notched the tying goal in the final minute of regulation, and Dallas rallied to beat visiting Los Angeles.
Coyotes 4, Ducks 2 - Radim Vrbata scored a pair of goals and Phoenix beat reeling Anaheim in Glendale, Ariz. Keith Yandle had a goal and an assist and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also scored for the Coyotes. Canucks 3, Avalanche 0 - Cory Schneider stopped 24 shots for his second career shutout, Manny Malhotra and Alexandre Burrows had early goals, and Vancouver extended a run of dominance against host Colorado with its 10th win in their last 12 meetings.![]()
