Filip Kuba scored 3:07 into overtime Friday night as the host Ottawa Senators edged the Montreal Canadiens, taking over first place in the Northeast Division from the idle Boston Bruins, who have two games in hand.

Taking a pass from Daniel Alfredsson, Kuba beat Carey Price with a slap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle. Erik Karlsson assisted on Kuba’s winner, giving him four points in his last three games and 71 points in 71 games on the season.

With Petteri Nokelainen in the penalty box, Tomas Plekanec recorded his second short-handed goal of the season, and ninth for the Canadiens, at 8:18 of the first period.

Colin Greening netted the tying goal at 6:27 of the third on a rebound of a Zack Smith shot.

Ben Bishop faced just 14 shots for Ottawa.

Blackhawks 4, Stars 1 - Dave Bolland and Patrick Sharp scored in the first two minutes, Corey Crawford made 21 saves, and surging Chicago beat host Dallas.

Jets 3, Capitals 2 - Dustin Byfuglien crashed the net to score the winner in the third period, as Winnipeg defeated visiting Washington, pulling to within two points of the eighth-place Capitals.

Oilers 3, Flames 1 - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a pair of goals and host Edmonton ended Calgary’s five-game winning streak. Oilers star Taylor Hall lost his balance and took a hard shot to the head from Cory Sarich along the boards in the first period and was helped off the ice.

Kings 4, Ducks 2 - Alec Martinez, Anze Kopitar, and Justin Williams scored first-period goals as visiting Los Angeles kept pace in the Western Conference playoff picture by beating fading Anaheim.
