Bruins defenseman Wade Redden was out of the lineup for Game 5 against Toronto because of an undisclosed injury. Coach Claude Julien termed Redden as day to day.

It is unknown when or how Redden suffered his injury. He played 16:59 in the 4-3 Game 4 overtime win. It was the most Redden played in the series. Redden did not miss any regular-season games because of injuries this year.

Matt Bartkowski replaced Redden on the third pairing alongside Adam McQuaid. The Bruins recalled Bartkowski from Providence Thursday.

For the Maple Leafs, defenseman John-Michael Liles, a healthy scratch for the three previous games, returned to the lineup in place of the injured Mark Fraser. Liles skated with Ryan O’Byrne on the third pairing.
