Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid has been named a finalist for the 2013 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, which is given to the NHL player who best exemplifies perserverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. Other finalists include Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota’s Josh Harding.
There was a time that McQuaid didn’t know if he’d be playing this season. Last fall, he had two surgeries to treat a blood clot under his collarbone, the result of thoracic outlet syndrome.
But he recovered fully and has been an instrumental reason the Bruins have advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
