Who has the edge at the blue line?
Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg are among the most physical defenders in the league when healthy. Andrew Ference may be able to come back and contribute. Torey Krug, the goal-scoring machine, has added much-needed punch to the blue line. Pittsburgh native Matt Bartkowski and Johnny Boychuk have been solid in the postseason. Adam McQuaid has been hitting bodies all over the ice. Chara will have the task of trying to stop the Malkin-Neal-Iginla line.
The Penguins’ front men get all the headlines, but their defense never rests, either. Kris Letang, a Norris Trophy finalist, has been an offensive force with 16 points in 11 postseason games. Boston College product Brooks Orpik can slow down an offense, much like Chara. Paul Martin is having a good offensive postseason with two goals and seven assists.
