Pittsburgh Penguins beat Boston Bruins

PITTSBURGH — There was little that the Penguins could prove against the Bruins on Wednesday night. They weren’t going to make up for the loss in the Eastern Conference Finals last season. They weren’t going to get back that Stanley Cup trip.

But it was clear in the days leading up to their matchup at the Consol Energy Center that the Penguins wanted to make a statement. And while they might not have made a dominant statement against the Bruins, they did come away with a 3-2 win, exceeding their goal total against Boston for the entire four-game series sweep back in June.
