Reilly Smith wins Seventh Player Award

In a pregame ceremony before Saturday’s contest between the Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers, forward Reilly Smith was named the winner of NESN’s Seventh Player Award for the 2013-14 season.

The 23-year-old has had a breakout season with the Bruins, tallying 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 total points in 77 games.

Smith – along with Loui Eriksson, Matt Fraser, and Joe Morrow – was acquired by the Bruins in the deal that sent Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley, and Ryan Button to the Dallas Stars on July 4.

Smith started the year on the third line, but moved up to the second line after injuries to Loui Eriksson and developed strong chemistry with Brad Marchand. The two had a friendly back-and-forth for the team-lead in goals over the first half of the season.

The NESN Seventh Player Award is given to the Bruins player that exceeded the expectations of Bruins fans during the season. Smith was chosen above all other players by Bruins fans voting on NESN.com.

Along with the Seventh Player Award trophy, Smith will receive $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.
