Wideman re-signs -- and gets a raise

The Bruins locked up their last restricted free agent yesterday, signing Dennis Wideman to a one-year contract.

Neither the Bruins nor Don Reynolds, Wideman's agent, released the defenseman's 2007-08 salary. But Reynolds said his client received a bump from his $473,000 pay in 2006-07 and his $520,300 qualifying offer.

"He got a raise and he's very pleased about that," said Reynolds. "He's happy to get it done and looking forward to a good year, obviously."

Wideman, acquired from the St. Louis Blues for Brad Boyes at last season's trade deadline, scored one goal and two assists in 20 games for the Bruins in 2006-07. The 24-year-old Wideman projects to be a third-pairing defenseman who should see some power-play time. "Knowing what they gave up for him in the trade, they obviously see something in Dennis," Reynolds said.
