Panthers, 3-2
With Tim Thomas joking that he was Batman, a reference to the Snickers commercial, when asked about his head-to-ice tumble in the second period, there was more laughter in the Boston dressing room than expected after the 3-2 loss.
"After our fourth win in a row, we didn't get too high," said Thomas (25 saves). "Tonight, we can't get too low."
* Glen Murray (two goals) wasn't very happy with the hooking call he earned in the third period. On the play, he got his blade into Martin Gelinas's torso and the forward fell to the ice. "It's partly my fault," Murray acknowledged. "I put my stick in there a little bit. But check the replay. It's barely even touching him and he goes down like he's been shot. They say they're going to fine guys for diving. That's a dive without a doubt."
* The Boston power play was scoreless on six attempts. Marc Savard said it was miserable, mostly because the Bruins didn't execute clean breakouts and set up their umbrella formation. "Timmy made some huge saves and gave us a chance to win," said Savard (five shots, 25:12 ice time, plus-2 rating). "That's why we ended up having any kind of chance tonight. Besides that, I don't think we deserved this one."
* He didn't drop any names, but Dave Lewis said he needs more balanced offensive production. "Generate more opportunities and get some different personnel putting the puck in the net," Lewis said. "Right now we're depending on two or three players. That's certainly not good enough."
* Phil Kessel skated 18 shifts for 11:48 of ice time. He's played less than 12 minutes in three of the last four games.
