Stastny to St. Louis
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Peter Chiarelli swapped Yan Stastny to St. Louis today for a fifth-round pick in the 2007 draft, sending the 24-year-old back to his home town.
"Sometimes you want to try and find someone opportunity elsewhere," Chiarelli said. "It wasn't whether he got a fair shake or not. It just wasn't trending the way that he'd be in the lineup. It was a mutual thing. It was time to get something for him while we could. For him, it's an opportunity to play elsewhere."
The 24-year-old Stastny (0-2--2 in 21 games with the Bruins) will report to Peoria, St. Louis's AHL affiliate, and play tomorrow against the Rochester Americans. Stastny had most recently been in Providence, where he scored seven points in the last four games.
"They had a veteran lineup already in place," said Matt Keator, Stastny's agent. "He did not get an opportunity with skill guys to fully show what he could do. Regardless, it wasn't the right fit for player or team. Thankfully Peter recognized that and moved him on. I've got no question in my mind that he'll be a solid NHL player. He'll get more of an opportunity and chance there."
