Gordon on P-Bruins

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff May 16, 2007 09:52 AM

Scott Gordon, under contract for two more seasons (plus a third via a club option), was nothing but positive on how far his 2006-07 club advanced in the playoffs.

"No complaints or regrets here," said Gordon. "I know we maximized our talent ability. We weren't that far off from winning the series. Our guys can certainly hold their heads high and know they gave everything they had."

Gordon, who is headed to his offseason home in Atlanta, said he'll be back in Massachusetts to participate in the prospects camp, which is scheduled to take place at Ristuccia Arena in July. Assistant Rob Murray should also be present at the camp.

* Gordon said the original timetable for Matt Lashoff (nerve damage) to return was for Game Four of the first-round series against Hartford. But the injury didn't progress enough for Lashoff to get back on the ice. Gordon didn't anticipate any long-term problems for Lashoff.

* Of all the players he coached this season, Gordon said David Krejci was the biggest eye-opener. "He was the best player in the American Hockey League in the second half that I saw," said Gordon of Krejci (16 postseason points). "In the second half of the season, I don't think there was anyone that did what he did the way he did it, without the personnel at times along his side. It was tremendous to be able to get him in here, play the minutes, and the play the role he did as a first-year player. I think that bodes well for the organization and him as a player."

* Off the top of his head, Gordon noted Krejci, Mark Stuart, and Nate Thompson as being three top candidates for big-league duty next season.

* While Tuukka Rask never saw game action, Gordon took some looks at the Finnish goalie during practice. "He certainly has the elements you look for in a goaltender," said Gordon, an ex-goalie himself. "He's got great lateral movement. He's got good edgework. Getting side to side on his feet and getting down in the butterfly position is one of his strengths." Gordon said Rask stands more erect than Hannu Toivonen, who tends to slouch over.

* Toivonen, who will be with the organization in 2007-08, according to GM Peter Chiarelli, still has his backer in Gordon. "Hopefully he leaves here and realizes, 'I'm still a good goalie and I'm going to have a career in the NHL,' " said Gordon. "He had a positive finish to the year as opposed to if he finished the year up there as the backup and got a handful of starts. It's good that he can come away knowing that he didn't play a lot up there, but he put together a full season, and in a way, it was a productive year."
