Peter Chiarelli said today that if Tuukka Rask does not make the NHL in 2007-08, the 20-year-old will get the bulk of the starts in Providence.

That rules out a Hannu Toivonen/Rask combination in goal in Providence. Toivonen, still seeking a reclamation of his game, needs playing time as well.

Also, Toivonen signed a one-way deal for 2007-08. It wouldn't be a smart use of payroll -- although it wouldn't count against the cap -- to pay Toivonen $532,000 to play in Providence.
