Savard out

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff October 10, 2007 03:45 PM

Despite moving well during the morning skate, Marc Savard (groin strain) will not play tonight against Anaheim. It will be the first NHL game he'll miss since the 2003-04 season.

"That's what [stinks] about it," said Savard, who reported he's felt improvement. "Wanted to keep the iron man streak going."

Glen Metropolit skated in Savard's spot between Peter Schaefer and Chuck Kobasew. Claude Julien said he hasn't determined whether Brandon Bochenski or Jeremy Reich will take Savard's lineup spot.

* Tim Thomas will start tonight.

* Bobby Allen will most likely be the healthy scratch on defense.

Today's practice lines:

Schaefer-Metropolit-Kobasew
Sturm-Bergeron-Murray
Axelsson-Kessel-Krejci
Lucic-Savard-Thornton
Reich-Bochenski

Chara-Ward
Alberts-Ference
Stuart-Wideman
Allen
