Bruins, 4-1

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff January 31, 2008 11:05 PM

Despite swiping two points from the Senators in their building, the Bruins weren't entirely pleased with their performance.

"I don't make my assessment on the score," said Claude Julien. "I make my assessment on the way we play. I didn't think we were playing well after two periods. They kind of knew it. I'm sure they know it right now. They know how I'm feeling. But they also know they didn't play as well as they could."

After Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic, and Marc Savard scored first-period goals, the Senators took charge of the game but had troubles solving Tim Thomas (30 saves). The Senators outshot the Bruins in the third period, 12-3.

* P.J. Axelsson, appearing for the first time since Jan. 10, played a total of 16:24, including a game-high 4:52 on the penalty kill. Axelsson reported no pain in his right foot but said his timing was a little off.

* Peter Schaefer played on the No. 1 line for the first time since Oct. 27. Schaefer skated 17 shifts for 13:46 of ice time, recording two shots, two hits, and a plus-2 rating. Schaefer also played on the No. 2 power-play unit.

* Chuck Kobasew scored an empty-net goal with 22.2 seconds remaining. Kobasew led all players with six shots.

* Dennis Wideman had a game-high seven blocked shots.

* The Bruins practice tomorrow at Ristuccia Arena at 11:30 a.m.
