Red Wings, 3-1

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff February 2, 2008 10:35 PM

After falling behind 1-0, Detroit scored the next three goals to earn their league-best 40th victory before a sellout TD Banknorth Garden crowd that was filled with the red and white paraphernalia of the visiting club.

"They're the best team in the league for a reason," said Claude Julien.

Chuck Kobasew scored Boston's only goal, his 19th of the season.

* The Bruins do not play any more Western Conference teams this year. They went 6-4-0 against clubs from the West.

* Zdeno Chara's two penalties couldn't have come at a worse time. At 13:54 of the third period, with his team down 2-1, Chara was forced to take a hooking penalty on Pavel Datsyuk that led to a power-play goal. Then at 18:14, Chara was called for roughing.

* The Bruins have tomorrow off. They return to practice on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Ristuccia Arena.

  1. chara wasn't forced to take the penalty, in fact he should have let wideman handle datsyuk since he had better position. instead of reaching with his stick and hooking he should have skated to try to help with any trailers, the rebound, etc. chara sucks
