Savard update

WILMINGTON — Veteran center Marc Savard, cracked across the back Saturday in Montreal by a Steve Begin crosscheck, was not on the ice here this morning for the Bruins workout.

No immediate word was available as to the condition of the 30-year-old center. Savard, the club's top offensive performer and among the game's assist leaders, was noticeably in pain and laboring of breath after the game against the Canadiens.

Alberts on ice

Andrew Alberts, who has missed half the season because of lingering post-concussion-like symptoms, suited up for the workout and was not—repeat: not—in a red sweater. The lack of a red sweater made the 26-year-old Alberts eligible for contact during drills and scrimmage—presumably a significant step toward both his recovery and return to the lineup.

Ference a no go

Veteran defenseman Andrew Ference, whose ice time was very limited in the third period at Montreal, also was not part of today's on-ice workout. Rookie Matt Lashoff was part of Claude Julien's six-man defensive pack.

Line 'em up

The lines:

Marco Sturm-David Krejci-Chuck Kobsew
Milan Lucic-Vladimir Sobotka-Glen Murray
Jeremy Reich-Petteri Nokeklainen-Peter Schaefer/Shawn Thornton
P.J. Axelsson-Glen Metropolit-Phil Kessel

The Bruins will fly to Toronto late this afternoon and take on the Maple Leafs tomorrow night at the ACC and the two clubs will meet again Thursday night at the Vault.
