Knee injury for Ward

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff April 16, 2008 12:22 PM

Aaron Ward didn't practice today because of a knee injury he suffered late in the game when he collided with Tomas Plekanec. Ward's status for tomorrow has not been determined.

Peter Schaefer and Dennis Wideman were given maintenance days.

* Claude Julien said he hasn't decided whether Phil Kessel, scratched for the last three games, will be back in the lineup tomorrow. "As we speak, there's lots of time before tomorrow night," Julien said. "We have to look at the health of our hockey club and try putting together the best team for the game tomorrow."

* David Krejci said he had a hard time forgetting about his shorthanded chance during the second period last night. Marco Sturm set up Krejci in front of the net during an Andrew Ference tripping penalty, the same infraction that led to Patrice Brisebois's game-winner. Krejci said the pass was flat and perfect, but at the last moment, the puck hopped up slightly. Krejci wanted to go upstairs over Price's pad but couldn't get enough on his shot. "Hard to forget," said Krejci. "I can't make any excuses. I have to score."

* The Boston power play is 1 for 17 during the series, with the lone goal coming off Krejci's stick during a five-on-three man-advantage in Game 2. Petteri Nokelainen said the Canadiens have done a good job of filling lanes and blocking shots. One factor that might come into play tomorrow: The end boards at the Bell Centre are much livelier than those at TD Banknorth Garden, so both teams might try shooting wide in hopes of sharp rebounds off the wall.

* Milan Lucic said he asked Mike Komisarek to fight in last night's first period. According to Lucic, Komisarek said, "Try me." But when Lucic asked him to go, Komisarek declined and returned to the bench. "He didn't want to," Lucic said. "That's pretty much it."

* The Boston mantra: Win one game at a time, not three in a row. "The last thing we want to do is focus on the big picture," Julien said. "The bottom line is we've got to focus on the next game. The big picture doesn't matter if we don't take care of the next game. That's how you get back into a series -- take it one game at a time. Once you start looking at the big picture, it's a pretty scary one."

* Julien declined to comment on former GM Harry Sinden's disclosure to Dan Shaughnessy in today's Globe that Zdeno Chara was playing with injured ribs.

  1. Sinden is an old fool at this point. In the same interview he said he didn't like Marc Savard and is not a fan of his play. Last time I checked, Savard was our best offensive player. Sinden described him as having a good batting average but not having any RBIs. I'm glad he is not evaluating and signing talent for this club anymore.

  1. Um, Bruins playoffs, biggest game of the year. Its do or die and they give the Sox HD coverage? Wow. Talk about throwing in the towel on a team that has never quit. Im a huge Sox fan, and realize the Bruins dont have the ratings they once did. But given the circumstances and implication,( Bruins, playoffs, game 7 atmosphere / Red Sox game# 17 out of 162) you'd think this one would be a no brainier. Il be watching both games on 2 different tv's, but the Bruins deserve the main coverage. Im extremely disappointed with the way NESN has handled this situation.

  1. Sinden's just sore that he's been pushed aside by the new regime. The game has passed him. And typical negative Shaughnessy, he knows nothing about hockey so he gives Harry a call after the Bruins lose and Harry takes cheap shots at Chiarelli's boys. It may not be the Bruins time yet, but with Milan Lucic growing up before our eyes, a healthy Bergeron as a second line center, and finding someone to take Glen Murray's spot (and salary), I like our team in the immediate future.
