Marquardt signs

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff May 29, 2008 02:43 PM

Matt Marquardt, acquired from Columbus on Tuesday, signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Bruins today.

"It's really a huge weight off my shoulders," Marquardt said. "I've worked a long time for this. I'm very happy and very satisfied."

Marquardt didn't get any clear indications that the Blue Jackets would sign him before Sunday's deadline. Marquardt would have become a free agent if he didn't sign.

Marquardt considers himself a power forward who can score but also play a grinding game when required. Marquardt will attend Boston's development camp in July.

  1. All I can say is... wow. This is great news for the Bs. I am happy this kid signed, now let's hope he keeps his head about him and trains his butt off to get ready for rookie camp in the late summer.
