Ward re-signs

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff May 20, 2008 04:35 PM

Aaron Ward has re-signed with the Bruins, agreeing to a multi-year deal. Ward had been seeking a two-year extension.

No word on the money at this point.

  1. I wonder how much 13 points is worth.......if they sign Ward and don't sign Wideman this team is in trouble.

  1. Hopefully its not to big a cap hit but I think Ward is an important leader on this team. He is a fearless shot blocker as well. Which could be his downfall.

  1. I was bummed when I saw the headline because I thought he had resigned.

  1. It all depends on which Aaron Ward they re-signed, the one that was a fearless leader for much of the season or the useless one that tripped over his own skates in the postseason. Age works against him, but I have faith in Wardo. I imagine this destroys all chances of us being able to afford Hossa.

  1. Ward has become a key member of this team. It's not all about points, it's not about age. I think without a doubt that the Bruins will keep Wideman. I think the reason they signed Ward first was because he's a UFA; Wideman's a RFA who may go to arbitration. Plenty of folks were making fun of Chiarelli when they saw Boyes scoring a ton of goals for the Blues, but making comparisons of Boyes to Wideman are unfair. You can't compare numbers between forwards and defenders. Look at what Wideman did with the Bruins, most of the year the top D-line with Chara, putting up 27-29 minutes a game. Boyes had 40 some goals and where did it get the Blues? Not into the playoffs. Don't be suprised if the next signing is Metropolit. From what I understand, the deal's just waiting to be signed.

  1. If Ward is worth $2.5M then I guess Wideman is worth at least $5M....I don't think Chiarelli thought this one out too well unless he wasn't planning on bringing Wideman back in the first place. He just shot himself in the foot if they go to arbitration.......Once again BAD management....

  1. Kevin I would love to hear why you feel Wideman would be worth double Ward... Wideman has played great this year but at times resembled his shaky self the year before. He had plenty of turnovers... but again, he was much improved... definitely not 5 mil though.
