Nokelainen in fold

Posted by Kevin Paul Dupont, Globe Staff June 30, 2008 06:14 PM

Petteri Nokelainen, one of the Bruins’ restricted free agents, came to terms with the team today on a two-year contract that will pay him an average of $850,000 per season, according to a league source.

Nokelainen, acquired during last September’s training camp from the Islanders for Ben Walter and a conditional 2009 draft pick, will earn $800,000 in the upcoming season and $900,000 in 2009-10.

The only unsigned restricted free agent remaining on Boston’s roster is Dennis Wideman, who last week filed for salary arbitration.

  1. great.....reserve that space on the stanley cup for the bruins player names.....nothing like going after hossa..keep re-signing 4th liners..hey, they made the playoffs right,,,so thats big time news regarding the bruins..guess they are done now..peaked..etc....geeee, we didnt need scoring, no, not at all....we just scored in bunches last year...rrrrright......the more things change, the more they stay the same...thank god for theo, danny and kraft in that city...3 out of 4 aint bad, i guess...it will take the bruins another 30-40 yrs before they see another stanley cup....truly sad..................

  1. Spare me, onion. So sick of hearing your BS. Don't watch hockey if you're not a real fan, go dump on something else. Free agency starts today, and we've got some cap space.

  1. getting bergeron back is like signing a big FA anyways, even if we dont make a big splash we are already better than last year. and what would you like them to do onion? not sign the 3rd and 4th liners and only go after Hossa that way we have no one to fill out the rest of the roster??

  1. The bruins are a very very young team right now. even though in the eyes of a boston sports fan not winning a championship is considered a failure, you have to look at what they did last season. they made the playoffs and took montreal to a game 7 as the 8 seed without our best player for most of the season. that is absolutely tremendous for a young team like the bruins to build on for the next season. give the bruins some time to develop. i love julien's style of coaching and even though the bruins may not be a contender right now they will be if they continue to play aggressive, exciting hockey.
