Chiarelli on Murray
GM Peter Chiarelli acknowledged that placing Glen Murray on unconditional waivers, the first step toward a buyout, was a challenging decision.
"It was really, really difficult," said Chiarelli of Murray, who was due $4.15 million in 2008-09. "Muzz is a very good person. He meant a lot to the room. It's something where you have to make hard decisions in this new system. Being put on waivers, if you get taken by somebody else, we're prepared to accept that. And that's not a very good thing to hear, especially for someone who's served the time he has with us. It was a hard decision. It's not written in stone that he'll be bought out, but it is a step toward that. It's unfortunate but it's part of the game."
Murray is expected to clear waivers by tomorrow's noon deadline. The 48-hour window to buy out Murray opens on Friday, according to Chiarelli.
* Chiarelli said the Bruins don't necessarily have to make any more moves to remain under the $56.7 million cap ceiling. "It gives us more flexibility," Chiarelli said of placing Murray on waivers. "It doesn't mean we have to move more salary."
* Chiarelli stressed that placing Murray on waivers was not directly tied to Dennis Wideman's extension. "It just so happened that the two things happened at the same time," Chiarelli said. "You can't connect the two directly."

Murray was a smart sniper in his day..These days you need a crazy sniper (OVETCHKIN).For the MOST part,To be a goal scorer in the NHL these days, you must like making your own parking space.
7-8 years ago, a sniper needed to be able to stand his ground while being tugged and pushed. This is where a 215 pound Glen Murray excelled. Today a sniper needs to be able to shoot on the run and dart into and out of open spaces very quickly. This new faster NHL doesn't favor Murray's style, and his age has made it harder for him to adapt. It's a shame, but when your goal scorer can't clique with the best passer in the league, it's time to move on. We'll miss Glen Murray.
ok well he sucks now so please get rid of him. soderberg please.
...and who is the best passer in the league?
miss him????????...pleeeze..,,.he stole enough money for 3 years......that 4 yr deal oconnell(that donkey)..gave him was as absurd as trading thornton for 3 stiffs....they should of bought him out last year....and the bruins will regret not signing hossa, and spending 4 mil a year on ryder....another couple of million, and they would of had a player 100x better then ryder..the more things change, the more they stay the same in the world of the boston bruins...peeeeeeeace out
You guys have that superstar Ryder for the same money now anyway. You can be just as thoroughly disappointing without Murray.
Chiarelli finally got rid of the last of the Mike O'Connel albatrosses from around his neck. Murray was only good with one center, Joe Thornton, and the only reason O'Connel resigned him was to entice Joe to resign. Once he traded Joe, Glenn never jelled with another center even though he has worked with at least 2 exceptional centers (Savard and Bergeron)
the best passer in the league is sid the kid.
hopefully they use that money wisely.
BRUINS OWNERSHIP!!!!! Please sell the team to an ownership who cares for the team and sport. I know you make tons of money, in this lucrative business. Please give something back to the fans. New England fans are educated, not stupid. You could have so much if you followed your fellow Boston Pro Sport systems. The Sox, Pats, and now even Celts have stepped up. Don't you feel ashamed of what you are doing to one of the most famed franchises in the NFL?
Chiarelli on Murray
"It was really, really difficult," said Chiarelli of Murray, who was due $4.15 million in 2008-09. "Muzz is a very good person".
We pay for our tickets to go see good hockey players not good people. Sorry Chiarelli, that would be really, really easy for me to do what you did.
Thank you hockey god that we don't have to witness another retirement in Bean Town with let down performances...Paul Coffey, Brian Leetch, Zhamnov...just to name a few.
If you get old and slow, can't skate faster than the refs, please go retire somewhere else!
We want someone young, hungry, no wife and multiple kids, shoot more that 2 shots per game, play 98% of the whole season, cheap is good to start and once the performance is higher that expectation, then you EARN what you deserve to get.
www. pleasesellthebruins . com, I think it speaks for itself. Don't you?
i liked murray when he came too the bruins and i still do the only thing is...now with the faster paced NHLmurray doesnt fare well against the other players and is a sniper that can not score which does not help the bruins at all!!
typical boston fans "what have u done for me lately" see drew bledsoe. johnny damon. bill parcells. ppl we would never have won championships without that now get crapped on around here. have murray's skills diminished yes. does that make him a bad person? no. look how doc rivers and terry francona treat thier players with respect. thats what chiarelli was saying when he said it was hard. family does matters. doesn't your family matter? chiarelli has class and a heart . good for him. i guess we should sue him for having a heart and developing freindships on his team while he tends to business. despite his heart he did make the right move for the team didnt he? murray scored alot of goals for this franchise when he was good. look up his stats as a bruin. we dont need fans like you.
DJ,
I think you missed the point. Nobody's saying Murray's a bad person, nobody's saying he's a loser. He just doesn't have the skating speed or effectiveness that he used to have. And you can't just keep a guy around for sentimental reasons... we want players that can help us win more games, not sit around the campfire all warm and fuzzy singing kumbaya.
I don't have a problem with Chiarelli having a heart, but when he said "It was...really difficult" because "Muzz is a very good person" that is what true fans have a problem with, because the fact that Muzz is good person has absolutely nothing to do with winning hockey games. If Muzz was a bad person would it be easier? What if he was a bad person but still a great player?
