Holding pattern

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff July 1, 2008 08:46 PM

We're approaching a three-hour delay and still no word on when GM Peter Chiarelli will be available.

We're running low on fuel (not to mention drinks and pretzels) here on Flight 0701 and might have to make an emergency landing if things aren't resolved soon. Paging air traffic control...

  1. I wouldn't hold based on this report from TSN.ca

"The other big name still floating in the free market is winger Marian Hossa, who has offers from the Rangers, Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers.

A source within Hossa's camp told TSN on Tuesday night that he would not decide on a team on July 1 and would take some time to consider his options.

The 6-foot-1 winger scored 29 goals and 66 points in 72 games split between the Atlanta Thrahsers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Hossa, 29, was acquired from the Thrashers at the trade deadline and helped Pittsburgh in its march to the Stanley Cups Finals. With 12 goals and 14 assists in 20 games, the 2008 playoffs went a long way to helping Hossa shed his reputation as a player that shone in the regular season, but struggled when it really mattered.

Originally a first-round draft pick by the Ottawa Senators in 1997, Hossa has been named to five NHL all-star teams and has recorded 299 goals and 648 points in 701 career games. Hossa was shipped to Atlanta as part of the Dany Heatley trade in 2005."

  1. Bottom Line, We Need a Top Shooter/Scorer! It is a damn shame all of the 1 goal games that the Bruins lost last year. Where is the offense? It is fantastic to have a good defense and great goal tending, but where are our scorers? Time to invest in some offense and shooting power, or we may need to watch Pittsburg to see some offense.
