Murray on waivers
The Bruins have placed Glen Murray on unconditional waivers, the first step of the buyout process.
If Murray goes unclaimed and the Bruins complete the buyout, they will trim $2,766,667 from their 2008-09 cap hit, bringing their current number down to $55,469,999. They will carry Murray's remaining money of $1,383,333 on their 2009-10 payroll.

Thanks for your services Muzz....it was only a matter of time.
if someone picks him up .
do we pay half the salary or all of the salary goes off the books
how does it work??
Muzz,
Thank you for being a Bruin and a professional in every way.
we need goal scorers and we just lost one. i understand he is older but he is still capable of putting 30 in the net . why didn't they waive Fernandez and bring up Rask to backup Thomas?
Thank god!!!!!! Now trade Alberts for a 3rd round pick. That's another $1m saved
why not wave peter schaefer?
muzz had one bad year.
Hale-flippin'-leuja ! They shoulda done this last November...
Goodbye Muzz, you will be remembered
another good hockey player from Nova Scotia, Hope he can catch on with another team. Enjoyed watching"27" play for the Bruins. Thanks
Noone should make that kind of money without producing at a high level. It's time to go out into free agency and spend the money needed to bring in a top line scorer.
Murray is washed up and was way over paid by O'Connell just to keep Jumbo Joe (remember him?) happy. Hopefully the B's are now rid of the last of O'Connell's mistakes.
What a shame!! Everyone gave up on Muzz WAY TOO early. He still has some great hockey ahead of him, that everyone will see here soon. Not that I dislike Fernandez, but thats where the cuts should have been made. Bring up Rask and for the love of God pay Thomas more!!! I hope Ryder is as good as PC says he is or we'll be in this same situation this time next year. You'll be missed Muzz!!!
aloha means GOODBYE! This was waaay overdue. too bad they didn't do it when there were still a couple of good FA's to out there to sign.
Why don't the Bruins wave themselves from Boston sports.
Glen Murray,
I have watched you play since you first came to the Bruins back in the 80's and then on your return trip . You have been a classy Bruin, and you will be missed. Thank you for all of your years of service to the B's and good luck in the future.
Brian K. Lapointe
icecop44 said it best. Muzz was a solid BRUIN. Class act.
Thanks for memories Glen. Even tough last year was a Hugh Disappointment, your goal scoring abilities will sorely be misted. Hope things works out for you.
He was overpaid to keep Thorton happy as someone stated is absolutely correct, he has nothing left in the tank as far as Rask goes the kid is a solid year away from being brought up. Fernandez will start this year and Rask will carry the load in Providence where he will get the minutes he needs to keep adapting to the North American game. Why rush him this team is still developing no need to have him shell shocked and shot confidence.
I liked Murray with Thorton, but he's struggled since Joe left. Its a faster paced game now and I think his wheels are falling off...Thanks for the years of service Glenn...What a shot! Hey, Daisy May left, maybe he could take her opening...
I hope fans will realize it's all about his contract and not him personally. It had to be done. I'm sure if he made less and they were under the cap then we wouldn't even be discussing this. Good Luck Muzz!
I highly doubt that they will sign anyone else at this point because they're barely under the cap as it is. I think trades are the only way to go, but I do like the idea of either trading or buying out Shaefer.
For anyone who doesn't think this is a good move, they must have not watched him play the last 2 seasons. This is addition by subtraction and cap relief.
He's a great guy, a great team guy, and he was a great sniper a few years back. But, he's on the downward slope, and even if he does have enough left in the engine for one/two more seasons, a smarter move as a Franchise would be to give the Bruin's young plethora of prospects a shot. There will be enough young kids trying to make the roster next season, that we don't have room for a struggling, injury ridden veteran over paid by about 3-3.5 million in a cap era NHL.
Hey, Joe M how did everyone give up on glenn??? he has been injured on and off the last few seasons, He has barely anything left in the tank and is too slow for todays NHL. He also did not score once during the 7 game series and had a few golden oppurtunites...
you also say cut...fernandez and bring up rask.....but If we waive fernandez we will syill have to pay some of his cap hit...if he is not picked up..and also when rask is called up he has a cap hit of over 3 mill due to bonuses..so basicly we would be paying 5 mill for rask...to be playing...he needs another year in providence... after this year manny and timmy are UFA....we will see cant predict what happens then.. Make sure you actualy know facts before posting random poop...
I don't believe Murray was on the B's in the 80s.
Gah! I was really hoping a buy-out wasn't coming, I'm not a fan of the buyout at all - just dead cap space for next year. Oh well, its classier than sending him to Providence. I was hoping that maybe someone would bite on him like LA or Atlanta or that someone would take the risk on a half price Muzz on re-entry.
This pretty much signals that there was zero interest in his services. No one will claim him now, knowing that they could get him for much cheaper when he's bought out and becomes a UFA.
Glen, Thank you for all your effort as a Bruin -- it is much appreciated. And we wish you all the best for the future.
Glen Murray was a classy Bruin who was an asset to the organization. Unfortunately his age has caught up with him and production has dropped steadly over the last couple of years. We will miss you and thanks.
This puts the Bs right below the salary cap so we are going into next season with the roster we have now, lets see if they can build on a great playoff series and bring hockey back to Boston.
Thanks again for all the memories Muzz!
Man there are some people in here on some serious drugs, Murray has had one good year in his entire career when he had 92 points, and only 2 other years over 30 goals, and 4 other years getting to 60 points. His skating and lack of stick handling wont be missed neither will his streakiness. The days of one dimensional players are over. He was good for what he was , a player with a good shot from the top of the slot when no one was around him. This is a move that should have happened last season. And to say that they shoudl have give Fernandez the boot and pay Thomas more just baffles me Thomas although a workhorse the last couple years is not a # 1 goalie and to have him and Rask as your 2 goalies is simply insane.
ok first of all, Murray lost a FEW strides. I went to alot of game this past season and the thing you noticed every time you saw #27 on the ice was that he was the last one in on the play. He couldn't keep up with any of his line mates, couldn't get to passes, couldn't win battles for pucks. It was sad to watch because i remember him being so great as a sniper for the Bruins and his selfless service putting his body on the line for the B's.
The new NHL doesn't fit aging players like Murray and it's sad to see because he's such a class act.
DOES HE NEED A RIDE TO THE AIRPORT?
The Bs have a wealth of young players that will do more with their playing time than he would have. Having said that, Murray's a good, hard working player and the kind of person you want in the dressing room. I also hate the $1.4 mil cap-hit for the 09-10 season. Which is why I would've parked Murray on the fourth line for the year and had Fernandez playing in Providence. Rask could back up Thomas, no problem.
The only reason Murray was singled out over Fernandez is because Murray was an O'Connell signing while Chiarelli traded a prospect for Manny. Having Fernandez play a grand total of 4 games as a Bruin wouldn't have looked good.
Murray was a great player and should be missed. Many deserves a lot of respect from B's fans for what he has given us over the years.... (check out another B's blog at HubHockey.com)
Schaefer was a waste of a player! Why get rid of a veteran player like Muzz? His contract is up next year anyway...why not let him finish his career in dignity? I think this was a mistake! God help this team with that idiot Chara as their so-called captain! Good luck Glen Murray wherever this new road leads! U will definitely be missed!
This is exactly why Ryder was signed, to replace Muzz. Same game, but Younger.
This is the best Bruins news I've heard since we signed Paul Coffey
Because buying out Schaefer doesn't get them under the cap....buying out Muzz does. Muzz's best hockey is behind him....he's a 40 point guy (maybe) with no wheels. Manny's contract is acceptable because Thomas makes 1.1 mil...so 5 million for you goalies ain't that bad...
Thanks for all the hard work Muzz. But it's definately time for you to put the hockey stick down and pick up the golf clubs permanently.
Have most of you even scene Rask play in Providence. He is NOT ready yet. He still needs another year down there. Everyone complains all the time that the Bruins rush goalies up the the NHL to soon and dont let the develope in the AHL, leave him down there and have him get games in. There is no problem letting Thomas and Manny fight for the number 1 job. As for Murray, thanks for your years of service, but it is a younger mans game.
Noallegiance, I suppose I didnt do all my math before Posting. I am a big fan of Murray and didnt want to see him go. I understand why they had to do what they did for the Cap but I'm not happy about it. I suppose my point was with all the bad deals/over paying that the B's do, that I find it a shame that Murray is the one that is out and Manny gets to stay. Now correct me if I'm wrong (which I'm sure you will), but I dont think Fernandez is a number one goalie anymore, nor do I think he's any better than Thomas. Although we grossly overpay him as if he is.
The only mistake they made was; NOT trading for players in the past couple of years. Murray was clearly on the decline about 3 years ago and really started to show how the game has slipped away from him in the past two years. Love the guy and he had some great years, but, we should've traded him a long time ago. Now, we're stuck with his salary and a cap hit. Bye, bye Muzz
Murray had to go. He was an old style forward of yester-year. Those days are gone and so is he. Bring in skaters who can create their own offense.
On a different subject: the Sox, Celts, and Pats won championships AFTER the teams were sold. C'mon Jeremy, do us all a favor and SELL THE TEAM.
Go BC Hockey !
Peter Schaefer played much better in the playoffs and can still skate at this level for less money.
Glenn Murray is supposed to be a goal scorer and had zero production in the post season and has continued a downward trend for the past few years.
It's tough to see a once good player and always a great guy's career come to end but in this day of salary cap and production Murray's contract became too much for the Bruins to carry.
This was the right hockey decision. Now don't be surprised if PJ Axelson and Schaefer are both traded for prospects before camp breaks.
Give Manny a chance. He's just "Manny being Manny." The only games he played with the Bruins, he was hurt. Thomas is still them man, so, let's ride him for another year. As much as I'd like see him come up from Providence, Rask does need more time - Bill is right on. With the Murray move, we may be able to get another mid-level player like Ryder.
Glenn Murray,
Thanks to my Dad, I have been a Bruins fan my whole life and have been going to games since I was 12 years old. I just want to say thank you for all of the memories you have given me and for all your hard work throughout your time on the team. I will definitely miss number 27 on the ice and wish I could see you finish your career here in Boston. Thank you for being a class act and a true player.
-Jimmy Baer
Dear Boston Fans,
I'm sorry I stunk for the whole contract I was given. I'm sorry I couldn't outskate an orange cone last year. In general I'm just a sorry individual
-Glenn Murray #27 & 44
How soft are the Bruins? Oh wait don't answer that. Release Glen, but sign Dennis Wiedman to an absurd amount of money. 13 goals- 15 million that sounds about right. Hey Mr. Jacobs why don't you put a team on the ice that can make the playoffs but nothing further. Perhaps we can bring PJ Stock back..no disrespect to him. Mark Messier is retired but I am sure the cheapest owner the Bruins have ever seen could sell some more tickets by signing him. The Jacob family has single handedly destroyed the Bruins..."How is Buffalo these days Mr. Jacobs? Immagine a boy from Boston, never going to see another Bruins game ever.
Muzz was a great Bruin but it became clear last season he has nothing left,
especially at 4.15mil a year. He never gave up on the effort last season but
he has slowed considerably. I hope he catches on somewhere on the West Coast
and has a good year.
LOL @ Muzzybear "the idiot Chara" had a career high in points and a finalist for the Norris.
Where was your beloved Muzz in the Montreal series?
to he fans, this is not what i wanted...injury's can ruin and career.
I can't believe the current regime bought this guy out. Glen was worth every penny! And why are the NHL owners blackballing me from my next GM gig?!! How many Stanley Cups has Jumbo Joe hoisted since the trade?
A necessary move. Murray's best days are long behind him. Shots that 2 seasons ago found the back of the net were hitting goalies in the chest last year. He had a nice little run but the Thornton trade seemed to spell the end to Murray's effectiveness in Boston.
Wideman received a decent deal, $15 million over 4 years based on a career high 13 goals may seem a little pricey but if he can continue to add that offensive pop from the blue line and shore up his defensive game a bit, he'll be just fine. He finished tied for 7th in goals from defensemen and only 1 goal back of the lead for PP goals for blueliners.
Muzz is a class act and an all-around good guy, but he was completely ill-suited for the post-lockout NHL. Even w/ Savard dishing the puck to him, he could no longer get himself into position to take advantage of good scoring opportunities. Thanks for 3 great years pre-lockout and for bringing good character on and off the ice throughout his 2nd stint w/ the B's, but I think his career is pretty much done.
Murray was drafted in 1991
The Bruins organization is about filling seats for attendence purposes, and making sure that the concessions are profitable. When are they going learn that you need "superstars' not role players to win the cup. Look at what the other proffesional teams have done to fullfill their goals. Getting rid of Murray is not the right move. Wake up, and sell the team to someone that really wants to win a championship for the "City of Champions"
As a Canadian fan of an American hockey team I get mroe than my share of ridicule amongst my circle of "sports friends". Being a Boston fan and living in theToronto area doesn't make things any easier. Muzzy has three things going for him that we should not forget:
1) He's Canadian. In other words, he actually knows how to play REAL hockey,
2) He has integrity both on and off the ice. When he speaks, which is rare, people listen. A true assistant captain to the core,
3) He continues to shoot the puck faster than Ryder's little arms will be able to.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is worth $4 million to our franchise, I just really liked him as a player with purpose.
Go BU hockey!
I can't cry for a guy who stole nearly 10 mil from his team. He should have retired last year when it became appearent that he could no longer compete physically at the NHL level. He had already been dogging it POST JT trade and last season was the icing on the cake. The Bruins definately made the right move in fact is was the only thing they could have done. As for the fans crying about MF well as overated as he is he's still a better netminder than Thomas albeit a prima dona and Rask is atleast one season maybe 2-3 hell I think Regan will be NHL ready before Rask.
The B's now have 6-7 players capable of 20+ goals and 2-3 of those guys could be 30+ and none of them need someone to get them the puck for them to score ala Glen Murray.
Now all the B's need is to find some solid #2-3 defenseman. Nothing against Wideman but he is a specialist and stil a young guy to boot that has a lot of growing to do.
Murray was drafted in 91, so which Murray was playing in the 80's ??
No offense, Murray, but you had to know this was coming. You've been through a lot, especially after having this happen to you twice. But honestly, Murray hasn't produced what he was supposed to. I only wish they had done this a month ago so they could have kept people like Metro.
Regardless, best luck to wherever you go, man.
Murray put in some good years here and he is a good guy to have on your team, but his skills are declining. It was painful to watch him skate, as he was more than a step slower than almost everyone out there. He just wasn't getting open or finding the seams. I think this is the right move. I don't think this is just one bad year for him; his skills are not what they were. If management saw this as just a fluke year, he'd still be here. Best of luck to ya, Muzz. The fans do appreciate you, but we see the other viewpoint too.
Never played in the 80's, had a short 5 game cup of coffee with the B's in 91-92....Muzz was a class act & was a true sniper.....But for anyone to say he has more great hockey left is totally wrong.
People are remembering the Muzz from 02-03 when he posted 90 points playing wing for Jumbo Joe. Fact is, he has had a huge point decline in every season since.
I actually think his production since 02-03 was not a decline but rather a return to form. Glen has only had 2 seasons over 60pts, the other coming in 99-00 when he had 62 for the Kings. We should expect more than 60, 53, 45 & 30 pts recorded in the past 4 seasons for the money he was paid.
I'ts 'Glen', not 'Glenn'...how can a lot of you guys say you're fans of the man without even knowing how to spell his name properly. Good luck Muzz, you've done Nova Scotia proud.
Glenn Murray....overpaid, over rated...good riddance...Now get ride of Manny and Schaffer, who was useless most of the year.....Trade for Jay B from Florida...
If anybody thinks the Bruins don't have a place in this town, just look at all the comments on this blog. People haven't been buzzing like this since Manny made his "Call from the Wall".
Glen, thank you for playing hard all of these years. I've really enjoyed watching you and cheering for you. I hope you land on your feet somewhere in the Western Conference... and I'd love to give you a standing ovation upon your next trip to the Garden.
I too love Muzz and couldn't have been happier when we traded my fav Ally boy to get Stumpy and Muzz back. Two of the younger Bruins that were special players at that time. But lets face it...when the trade deadline comes and goes and not a single deal is made that involves Muzz that kinda tells you what his value is on the market right now! He is a great leader and nobody has a quicker release but I think the game has blown by him. You think Joe is calling Doug Wilson right now??? You Betcha!!!
Thanks alot for your time spent in Boston with the Bruins Murray. Its just a matter of salary cap room. So goodluck on the future. The Bruins movement is a youth movement now and the Bruin's future looks great.
Go Bruins Go!!!!
Face it. This guy was finished. 0-0-0 in seven playoff games says it all. When they did set him up for a scoring chance all he could do was crash head first into the boards and nearly break his neck. Time to retire......
bring back steve mcintyre he could beat up thornton and chara at the same time.murray healthy would have put 30 in the net.mike ryder the big move is no big deal.
Murray may not be done yet, career wise, he scored 28 goals the year before last. But throughout his career he's never been a solid playoff performer. Since his return to Boston he's only scored 4 playoff goals in 25 games. In is career he's only got 24 playoff goals in 94 playoff games. Still, he will be missed. When he's on, he's got the best one-timer since Brett Hull.
Hey Murray, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya on the way out of town. Thanks for nothing, you skate like someone stuck in mud. Enjoy LA, San Jose or Anaheim and hang 10 brother!
Glen Murray is NOT a sniper. His stats are almost exactly the same a Dave christian and Steve Kasper not exactly snipers. He has just 1 40 goal year..He suck big time in the playoffs..Willi Plett had more playoff goals in less games so did Poulin,Burridge Tom Fergus to name a few.Barry Pederson had 12 more goals in 64 less playoff games..how the hell did Murray ever get the sniper rep?his best years were with Knuble and Thornton a world class center. His stats dont even comare to guys like tochett,Middleton and Kevin Stevens..The guys didnt deserve the money he got or the reputation he had..He had ZERO point in tha playoffs this year and the Bruins were starving for offense...If anyone dosent believe me just check the numbers. he was a good scorer thats it and he dosent even do that any more
Yes, it's better for Rask's development to play in the AHL instead of being a back-up in the NHL. Even still, the Bs could have signed Auld or another cheap but capable number two.
As for Wideman's contract, it's fair in terms of the current market. Besides, I think he's foregoing at least 2 years of UFA status, something he had to be compensated for.
And yes, Jacobs is a horrendous owner. Thankfully Chiarelli has done a pretty decent job, in my opinion. At least the future is pretty bright!
He's not gone folks ... say hello to the newest NESN analyst.
Murray had to go. He was a leader and a class act, but it is about winning and the Bruins will be better without him.
Also, I would like people to give Shaef another shot. He played with a broken foot last year. Look how he responded in the playoffs. I look at him to produce a banner year.
Manny will also play very well in net as it is a contract year. Unfortunately, I don't care due to the fact I am a Thomas fan.
ryder is going to kill with savard and coach julien back in his corner.
bergy is coming back to help team up with kessel(30+ goals this year.)
sturm , lucic, kobasew, we have some offense.
norris candidate chara with wardo, stuart, defense will get even better having leaned julien's system last year, they just have to continue it.
schaefer came on late and should bounce back this year
manny will do what he was supposed to do last year and that is challenge thomas for the starting job, and i believe will obtain it.
murray will be missed a person and icon for the b's but extending wideman, a promising young offensive defensemen, was def the right choice.
Hey Darren, Murray couldn't put 30 in the net even if all the other teams played with no goalie. HE IS DONE.
Woah....I can't believe someone actually thinks her name was (is) Daisy May.
JB
Can we waive the Jacobs family in hopes of having a good hockey team in Boston again!?!?
And another Bruin run out of town, Thornton, Terpin, Horner..now Murray!!!!! This franchise is a joke!!!! Rico Lloyd must be rolling over in his grave, bring back old time hockey and a team that has a chance to win.
Muzz will be missed. I have watched him when he started with the B's years ago . I remember the Stumpel, Murray , Hughes line.
Classy guy...would have been a better guy to wear the "C" than the one wearing it now....much more of a leader.
He is very respected by fellow team mates . I am sure they aren't happy that # 27 won't be there this year.
Some of you are ignorant and have NO (or LOW) class. Find another player to vent your foolish hate too.
Best of luck Muzz... I hope you play somewhere next year and score many goals.
Take off, eh! Yer too old and sloooow to play ockey now, eh.
Gordie
Good riddance! I was once a Murray fan, but after seeing his lazy play in the playoffs firsthand, I hope he is done! The guy wasn't even skating hard against the Canadians. He is pathetic.
"best luck to wherever you go, man."
And we all know that he will "go" somewhere. There are still some more productive (20 goal-plus seasons in the right place) left in his tank. If I were the GM of any team other than the Bruins, I would sign him after he clears waivers and is bought out. I hated to see this happen to Murray, but I know that it is the only thing that the Bruins could have done; I would have done it as well were I the Bruins GM, which would have resulted in the same kind of evening I am having now, that being wiping my eyes frequently and downing a lot of alcohol. He gave a hell of a lot; let's not forget though fellows that this guy has made a lot of money over the last several years so unless he is a high spending heroin addict he is going to be doing pretty well, even when retirement time comes.
And no, Manny Fernandez should not have been bought out. He is still in his prime as a goalie, and a great goalie he was pre-knee injury. His knee is 100 percent now after surgery, and so yeah even though he may be somewhat overpaid; remember that this guy is a blue chip goalie.
//He's Canadian. In other words, he actually knows how to play REAL hockey,//
Yeah, unlike tthose stiff Russians Ovechkin and Malkin. Or that stiff Slovak Hossa. Or that stiff Swede Zetteberg...
And Glen Murray isn't "lazy." That's a moronic statement. He did the best he could, but his time is well past. Even a great horse has only so many miles in his legs. It's the right move to get rid of him, but there's no need to kick him on his way out of town.
Hey Muzzfan,The stats dont lie.He is DONE.Look at the numbers. All he did was take icetime from a player that may have done something..He ran himself out of town.He cant keep up in the post lockout NHL.If he isnt scoring he brings ZERO to the table.Players make their reps in the playoffs and that was when he did the least. If he played better he would still be here. How long were they supposed to carry him when he isnt helping. This is a smart move..how many point blank shots did he miss vs the Habs I saw him just fall over for no reason. If he cant score with Savard passing to him its time to hang em up
Muzz, thank you for everything you've done for the organization! Your leadership will be missed! Good luck in the future!
He was never lazy
The guy was a hard worker, kept his mouth shut, was a leader. He just doesnt have anything left in the tank, it is unfair to say he was lazy. It was a good move to release him, but please dont throw the guy under the bus....he had more heart than most players today.
On another note....if the Bruins put the team on waivers, maybe a REAL owner could pick them up and turn them back into a real team?
When was the last time they made a huge splash and grabbed a great free agent? PLEASE dont say Charra, that guy is slower than Murray. If you want to talk about overpaid, Charra is overpaid.
I will no longer attend a Bruins game until this team is sold...sorry but Jacobs does not get another penny from me.
all this talk about ownership, they spent the most they were allowed the last 2 years.
what more could ownership do? its all on the general manager when dealing with a salaray cap and PC is finally cleaning house of all the bad moves made before him. this year or next the bruins will be a top team and a force to be reckoned with, we have one of the deepest collections of young talent waiting to prove themselves. unfortunately that couldnt have happened with murray clogging it all up. I loved the guy and thank him for his years... but it's a business after all.
It's a shame we couldn't just re-negotiate a pay cut with him.
//When was the last time they made a huge splash and grabbed a great free agent? PLEASE dont say Charra, that guy is slower than Murray. If you want to talk about overpaid, Charra is overpaid.//
It's Chara with one R. He's also a Norris Trophy finalist and recognized as one of the premier defensemen in the NHL. Slow? How many d-men are speed burners?
As for a "huge splash" what part of the term "salary cap" do you not understand? The Bruins are AT THE CAP. Criticize Jacobs if you wish for unwise choices (though it'd probably be more accurate if you criticize managment), but you can't dump on him for not spending.
He was a Norris Trophy finalist based on reputation. I dont think most d-men are "burners" as you call them, but Chara (I am so thankful you felt the need to correct my spelling, I suppose I lost my smiley face sticker on my term paper) is EXTREMELY slow to recover in the their own zone. He moves backwards slower than Chris Canty. Granted he has amazing reach and I think he is a good defenseman, better than average, but not worth that contract. Part of the reason they are at the cap is because of contracts like Chara's, and that is my problem. You say not to blame ownership as they are at the cap, and to blame management, but they have had bad management for over 20 years now. So if they continue to change management, but still suck, who's fault is it? It is the owner for hiring bad managers. Also, Jacobs has been notoriously cheap, letting players go as they enter their prime in anticipation of costs. Going back to contracts, do you think that Fernandez was a good signing? They cant make a huge splash because they pay a bunch of "mid level" players at mid level salaries. But every team needs that dynamic scorer, impact player. Who is that for the Bruins? You could say it will be Bergeron (I am sure I spelled that wrong as well, but then again, ask me if I give a damn) but he may never be the same, and my guess is that when his contract re-negotiation occurs, they will trade him away at his peak value (See Joe Thornton). So yes, I know they are at the cap, as I understand financial restrictions more than you will know, but its HOW YOU WORK WITH THE CAP that makes you a champ. Jacobs was instrumental in getting a hard cap in the NHL, and his team has been horrible navigating through it. They are at the cap, and yet they dont have one all-star offensive scorer on the team. Savard is a great player, but not a goal scorer. DID YOU WATCH the playoffs last year, they lost that series because they cant score..plain and simple.
