  1. ex-Canadiens always scare me. He posted some decent points the past few seasons but only 31 last season... but, I guess it's good we got a RW? I don't know how I feel about it yet.

  1. Is this guy any good?

  1. Not Hossa, but a very solid signing. I'm pleased. Way to go B's. We'll grow our own snipers.

    Posted by TOMAustinPrep197 July 1, 08 10:07 PM
  1. Better than spending 60-80 million on Hossa. At least Ryder has a chance to live up to his contract.

  1. whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, we should just sell the bruins to the wisconsin wildcats or something, they don't want to be part of title town..........Get rid of them. I was about to buy lots of game tickets if they had signed hossa, but guess not.................

  1. hope this isn't another lapointe signing. maybe he'll be the 30 goal scorer he was a couple years ago.

Posted by josh July 1, 08 10:10 PM
  1. hes a two time 30 goal scorer with playoff expirence relax

Posted by brian July 1, 08 10:10 PM
  1. This is a first night signing? Hell, in the old days, this would have been a waiver wire acquisition.

  1. 4 mil a year??? r u serious where di u read that from??? i mean he is a good player got some grit to his game but not worth 4 mil a year

  1. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Thank god for free food at the Garden! Haha! This team is a complete joke. I feel bad for the players

  1. great signing guys i live in mtl and this guy just got a raw deal under garbo/carbo.4 mill will be a steal in year 2 youll see with savvy he'll reach atleast 30 again..awesome solid pickup....

  1. Hey he's a Newfie - that's a character move any day. If healthy, should be a hard worker, and an asset in the locker room.

Posted by McLovin July 1, 08 10:15 PM
  1. Considering the salary cap, I guess that this is as good as it gets!! Maybe Murray will have a fantastic year.

Posted by Larry Mako July 1, 08 10:15 PM
  1. not nearly good enough, he had 14 goals last year. The bruins needed a 30+ goal scorer to be fed by savard

Posted by Adam July 1, 08 10:16 PM
  1. joke

Posted by Felipe July 1, 08 10:18 PM
  1. do the math fellas he's scored 99 goals in 4 seasons and this past season he was a healthy scratch or 4th line player....thats a pretty good average and probably a better avg than any current bs players....thats 25 goals per season...

Posted by curt July 1, 08 10:21 PM
  1. Misprint right? I already bought my marian hossa jersey

Posted by BOB July 1, 08 10:21 PM
  1. Too much for a guy who was scratched for 12 games last season and 8 games in the playoffs.

Posted by madalton July 1, 08 10:22 PM
  1. worse move u coulda made. u had hossa if u waited maybe another day or two. this guy is obviously on the decline of his career only scoring 31 pts. last yr, but the 06-07 yr he had around 61 pts.

  1. Hope it was just an off year.

  1. He'll have a good bounce back season. Didn't fit in with Montreal last year and was injured some of the time.

Posted by Matt July 1, 08 10:24 PM
  1. When is the Marian Hossa Presser? This has to be a joke? April Fools? They waited 4 hours for this? Honestly? No serious?

When are Bruins fans going to boycott the Garden? New Ownership is needed. It wasn't until the Red Sox, Pats and Celts changed owners that they were able to win.

I would love to see one game just one game that no fans show up.

Wake me up the next time they sign a big time player.

Posted by Will July 1, 08 10:28 PM
  1. alright! great job Peter!!!!! we're going to wait and see how the bigger ufa dictate the market. We're not gonna overspend. Yea! lets just go spend $4 million a year on a guy who's coming off a 31 point campaign! Brilliant move! Martin Lapointe the next generation. Another great start to free agency for the Bruins; oh well there's always next year!

Posted by Eddie July 1, 08 10:29 PM
  1. $4M for the worst season of his career? Imagine if he had a good year...Jack Edwards will spin this guy as a poor man's Hossa. He did score 30 a couple times and I doubt Hossa will get 50+ any time soon. But when Hossa lands in Montreal there is going to be alot of bad feelings around here. I would rather have had an offensive Dman, myself.

Posted by kevin July 1, 08 10:31 PM
  1. We love number 7 forwards. We don't need a guy who MIGHT score 30 goals, we need a guy who WILL score 30 goals. Glen Murray money for Glen Murray production.

A waste of resources for a guy who will not provide what this team needs.

Posted by Mike July 1, 08 10:31 PM
  1. could have done better with 4million dollars.or just saved the money for next year if they wern't serious about winning this year.

Posted by dave July 1, 08 10:32 PM
  1. absolutley ridiculous......4 million a year!? isn't that the type of salary that is weighing us down with players like glen murray and manny fernandez making around the same amount but not producing? PC should have bought out or traded murray and fernandez and used the extra money to get a legit player like hossa or cambell or even jagr. I mean, overspend for hossa or jagr, at least it's a player that can produce and at the same time get the fans excited.

Posted by luke July 1, 08 10:36 PM
  1. wow, I live in Montreal and I really feel sad. Man I was expecting Hossa, not Ryder... this guy doesn't have any heart. 4 Millions???? Damn.. I saw him play this season and he was horrible..

    Posted by Marc-Antoine July 1, 08 10:42 PM
  1. This is GOD awful!!! Now what happens when Kesell and Lucic are up for contracts in a few years with this guy on the books for 4 mill the b's are now screwed royaly!!

Posted by John July 1, 08 10:46 PM
  1. Ryder had 2 30 goal seasons with Claude Julien. Guy Charrbonneau stepped in and Ryder was in the dog house for a while, then got hurt.

As someone mentioned, Hossa was WAY too expensive, he'll probably either stay in Pittsburgh or the Rangers will be foolish, in typical Ranger fashion, and sell the farm on him.

Ryder DOES have playoff experience and he's a definite goal scorer. With Savard feeding him pucks and Bergeron back in this lineup, I like our chances. We are much stronger team this year already than we were last year.

  1. Sorry guys. You'll be cursing this dude by January.

    Disapprove.

Posted by jon July 1, 08 10:52 PM
  1. Yay !! We will win the cup for sure now !
The Bruins did'nt help their chances of selling seats this season at all !
Hard to be happy about this clown coming here

Posted by Dean July 1, 08 10:56 PM
  1. This guy was a Bruins killer, Hossa would have been nice, but to over pay him, read 8 million or more, not to be able to resign our future restricted free agents when they are about to enter their prime is not how you win cups, see the buffalo sabres. Hossa can score but he has only had one good playoff run. I'll gamble with Ryder, sign Wideman to a three year three million dollar deal and still save one million (or more) on letting Hossa walk. Who says this kid isn't a 40 goal scorer? We have scoffed at Peter’s moves before and this very well could be a dud, but he has done well over the last two years, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Posted by Sean July 1, 08 11:00 PM
  1. Are you all serious?? This is a killer addition to the Power Play!! He's quick and good with the puck. Just because it's not Hossa we're ready to write off the team? Gimme a break.....You don't want to be a fan or "buy lots of tickets." I say good, we don't want you there.....

So by this logic, you wanted NO SIGNING?

    Posted by Jason J July 1, 08 11:07 PM
  1. i am pretty sure half of you have no clue what the bruins need, you just wanted them to sign a big name. this is a good signing, couple this with the return of bergeron and sign me up, looking good already and if we get rid of murray we still have room to sign a key role player or an underrated scorer. and if Manny's knee works out we could have a two #1 goalies.... I am excited

Posted by mattyw July 1, 08 11:15 PM
  1. This signing is not that bad, who is to say he can't turn things around he had 1 bad season but break down his #'s and he is a career 25 goal scorer and that is what 4 m buys now a days. As for people saying it hurts the future and trying to resign upcoming RFA, well how would Hossa's 9M help

Posted by Bill July 1, 08 11:18 PM
  1. not to mention there is no way Hossa would play for boston for what we can afford to pay him, for the same amount we can afford he can go back to Pitt and play with crosby and malkin

Posted by mattyw July 1, 08 11:19 PM
  1. I had a feeling Ryder would go to Boston, and I'm happy he's a Bruin, cuz the Bruins need wingers, but 4M is pricey.
But then again, nobody got signed today for a steal, except for Conklin IMO.

Posted by Knipsheer July 1, 08 11:48 PM
  1. I like the Ryder signing. I can't see spending 8+ million for 5 or 6 (or more) years on Marian Hossa. I don't think Ryder lacks character. I trust Chiarelli and Julien on this deal. Chiarelli has been involved in the Northeast Division for a long time and Julien has coached Ryder on more than one occasion. Look at the Campbell deal from today. Would you guys want to commit an average of 7.125 million over 8 years for him?

Posted by Brendan July 2, 08 12:47 AM
  1. I agree a little pricey, but that is the market. He will help the powerplay A LOT

What do the new lines look like? Bergeron back. Bruins have a nice group of Young Forwards!

Still need a D' man. I think they are on the right track. Make the right moves , DOnt just get a big name. Look at the Rangers

Posted by Kurt July 2, 08 08:02 AM
  1. Ryder did have success under Coach Julien in the past, hopefully that can be the case here in Boston.
Personally, I'm not sold on the addition of more 2nd/3rd line talent but I do think Ryder is a solid forward. Also not quite sold on the "IF" factor. If he returns to being a 30 goal scorer, than this is a steal! If he continues to play like the softy that was scratched in the playoffs, we'll be crying for a buyout like we are right now with Muzz and Fernandez.

Posted by Don Leonard July 2, 08 08:39 AM
  1. Good signing 4mil. though ahhh. Hes reunited with Julien so hopefully he can get back on track and be a solid puck mover on the pp.

Posted by Ben July 2, 08 08:53 AM
  1. Is anyone more concerned about the -25 he put up in his alleged good year?

    Posted by pmar451 July 2, 08 08:59 AM
  1. Not a bad signing he had some decent years in Montreal. I do think $4 Million was too much however. They should buy out Muzz's contract and open up some cash for another player or two. There are still a few decent players out there that could help this club. Perhaps Bertuzzi?

It's only been day one of the feeding frenzy. But based on Chiarelli's quotes they may be done dealing, which is sad. I was hoping for them to have a summer of revamping the line-up, but once again dissapointed.

Posted by notsurprised July 2, 08 09:08 AM
  1. When does Chiarelli take him on the Duck Boat tour?

Posted by RickB July 2, 08 12:50 PM
  1. I like this move. Bringing Ryder in under Julien and Neely; excellent move.
If, and that's a big IF..Glen Murray stays and PRODUCES...along with the return of a healthy Bergeron; the B's will be a team to deal with.
Plus, we need that "Edge" against the Habs - and Ryder can supply that.

  1. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
    Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

If we were bargain hunting we should have got a bargain.
Could have upgraded on goaltending too.

  1. Good for the team guys, played ball against the guy , he is a very chararter guy.
He will be an asset to the dressing rm & ice surface. His stats are good for what is available in the NHL. Bad year, last year, but seems like management had a big roll in his stats.Gainey don"t have time for hard workers such ,as ex Hab Mike kean or maybe newf"s . OOPS, did I print that . " MAYBE GOOD TIME FOR MONTREAL PRESS TO COMMENT ON THIS ONE".
I am a fan of the habs, and have been all of my ability to play and watch sports,
I have watched Carboneau VS Middleton in many a rivals , but he havent got the abilities on the offence as Ryder .Set in your ways Carboneau ,To bad for you and your team,"today""maybe not tomorrow". Hey Mike thanks for the autoghaph on my little girl, tatums, 5$ bill.
