Updated salary breakdown

With Glen Murray most likely headed for a buyout, here is the current salary grid detailing the annual cap hit of the 23 signed players (plus the right winger's remaining salary) contending for 2008-09 jobs in Boston:

Forwards

Marc Savard, $5 million
Patrice Bergeron, $4.75 million
Michael Ryder, $4 million
Marco Sturm, $3.5 million
Chuck Kobasew, $2.33 million
Phil Kessel, $2.2 million
Peter Schaefer, $2.1 million
P.J. Axelsson, $1.85 million
Glen Murray, $1,383,333 million
David Krejci, $883,000
Petteri Nokelainen, $850,000
Milan Lucic, $850,000
Vladimir Sobotka, $750,000
Shawn Thornton, $517,000
Jeremy Reich, $487,500

Defensemen

Zdeno Chara, $7.5 million
Dennis Wideman, $3.875 million
Aaron Ward, $2.5 million
Andrew Ference, $1.4 million
Mark Stuart, $1.3 million
Andrew Alberts, $1.25 million
Shane Hnidy, $757,000

* Matt Lashoff and Matt Hunwick will contend for NHL jobs next year. But for this model, their salaries are not included.

Goalies

Manny Fernandez, $4.33 million
Tim Thomas, $1.1 million

* Tuukka Rask will most likely spend another season in Providence.

Current cap hit: $55,469,999

Notes: If Murray goes unclaimed and the Bruins complete the buyout, they will be $1.23 million below the $56.7 million cap ceiling.

  1. Too bad for Glen. He was a good Bruin while he was healthy. I know I'll never forget the success the 600-pound line had with Murray, Joe Thornton, and Mike Knuble (why can't we get players like those).

  1. The only time Glen was good was when Joe Thornton was his center. He spent the last 2 seasons hurt and when he was healthy he didn't contribute. I'm not sorry to see him go. The B's have to jetison the dead weight or they will never be able to attract the talent needed to compete for the Cup. They aren't going to get "home town" discounts from players since they don't have the aura of winning championships the rest of the New England teams have (that includes the soccer team)

  1. Bruins are nothing but a mediocre franchise. This 'team" will be mired in the middle of the pack for years to come.
