Good read from Chuck Gormley at the Sporting News regarding Simon Gagne, Philadelphia's equivalent of Patrice Bergeron -- French-Canadian, go-to stud, and shelved for a good part of 2007-08 because of concussion issues.

One of the treatments Gagne has undergone is prolotherapy, which involves a series of injections to a specific area to spur the body to repair itself.

COMMENT: Former Boston University winger David Van der Gulik, now in the Calgary system, tried out prolotherapy to treat a groin injury. The way Van der Gulik explained the process -- multiple injections to the groin area -- made it sound like a less-than-pleasant procedure. It worked, though.

According to RDS (translations provided by sister station TSN), Montreal GM Bob Gainey isn't banking on signing Mats Sundin. "It's hard to be optimistic," Gainey said.

COMMENT: At one time, Sundin set a date of Aug. 1 to make his decision. So far, we've only heard crickets. Signing Sundin would make Montreal a significant power in the East. But fortunately for the Bruins, Gainey doesn't think it will happen.
