Here's the first attempt in what should become a regular morning feature -- one or more national links.

Leading off, we've got Mount St. Charles alum and former Bruin Bryan Berard being invited to Flyers camp in hopes of landing a big-league job.

ANALYSIS: Solid move by GM Paul Holmgren, going the low-risk route to get another veteran in camp. Berard (5-17--22 with the Islanders last season) will have some stiff competition on the Philly blue line. But considering Philadelphia's cap squeeze (currently over the $56.7 million ceiling), signing an inexpensive veteran might be a good option for the Flyers.

  1. Could wind up being a good addition in limited minutes for the right price. I wouldn't have minded him back in the B&G if he didn't cost over $1M and we could unload Alberts
