Canada comes to Boston

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff August 1, 2008 09:01 AM

Jason Bay, the newest member of the Red Sox, hails from Trail, British Columbia, also home to recent champion Dallas Drake. The ex-Red Wing, who announced his retirement, brought the Cup to the greater Trail area earlier this summer.

Another Boston connection to Trail is Grant Rollheiser, who will be a freshman goalie at Boston University this fall. Rollheiser most recent played for the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL.

If you want the definitive story of how Bay ended up in Boston, check out today's piece by Gordon Edes, who's stepping off the ice as a Globe writer this week. Stick salute to Edes, a former hockey guy who covered the Kings for the Los Angeles Times (Dave Lewis once bought him a round), one of the finest baseball writers around. We'll miss you, Gordo.
