Cassidy to Providence

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff September 12, 2008 04:57 PM

Former Washington head coach Bruce Cassidy will serve as Rob Murray's assistant in Providence.

The 43-year-old Cassidy, an Ottawa native, most recently served as head coach in Kingston (OHL). Before that, Cassidy was an assistant in Chicago. He's been a head coach in Grand Rapids (AHL, IHL), Indianapolis (IHL), Jacksonville (ECHL), and Trenton (ECHL).

Cassidy was drafted by Chicago with the 18th overall pick of the 1983 draft. The defenseman appeared in 36 career NHL games.

  1. Hmmm.

I wonder if he was the best available or if they are simply looking to develop defensemen.
