Detroit, 2-1
Some shaky goaltending from both netminders in the first period.
After a Boston defensive-zone turnover, Cory Emmerton took a long-distance half-slapper that beat Tim Thomas five-hole. Jeremy Reich responded by slapping a change-of-pace one-timer through Chris Osgood. But Brett Lebda gave the Wings a 2-1 lead when his shot ticked off Thomas's glove and into the net.
Several minutes later, Jiri Hudler threw a long-range shot on goal that Thomas couldn't glove. During the next whistle, Thomas skated to the bench for equipment manager Mark Dumas to perform some repairs on his glove.
* For the fourth straight period, there wasn't a whiff of chemistry between Marc Savard and Michael Ryder. Might have been because the go-go Wings had the puck for much of the period. When they didn't have the puck, the Detroit forecheck kept the Bruins from completing passes and starting their breakouts. No surprise here if the Wings make another deep postseason charge.
* Phil Kessel had three down-low scoring chances that Osgood stopped.
* After leaving the bench for several minutes because of an injury to his left leg, Dennis Wideman returned with about seven minutes remaining. Wideman completed the period and didn't appear to have any limitations.
* Patrice Bergeron was advancing through the neutral zone when he caught sight of the hard-hitting Niklas Kronwall, ready to throw one of his trademark hip checks. Bergeron wisely dumped the puck into the Detroit zone.
* The PK pairs: Reich and Nate Thompson, Savard and Ryder, P.J. Axelsson and Blake Wheeler.
