Hello from Crosby Country
COLE HARBOUR, Nova Scotia -- The first group has concluded practice at Cole Harbour Place and last night's lineup is on the ice.
Tuukka Rask will start in goal tonight in Moncton, New Brunswick, against the Islanders. Kevin Regan will be the No. 2 goalie, but Claude Julien hadn't decided whether Rask would play the entire game.
Zdeno Chara (shoulder) and Shane Hnidy (knee) will not play for the second straight game. Chuck Kobasew, Martin St. Pierre, and Tim Thomas are the other veterans who will not have seen preseason action after tonight's match.
* Julien had good things to say about Blake Wheeler, who played in all situations last night while skating on the No. 2 line alongside P.J. Axelsson and David Krejci. "He's a big power forward that has skill and good speed for his size," Julien said. "It's something we've been looking for as far as building our team -- big, powerful guys who can keep up with the game. He showed that last night. He's capable of making some good plays. On the goal that [Vladimir] Sobotka scored, he made a great pass."
* While Wheeler served notice last night, another power forward who's looking to make a statement tonight is Matt Marquardt. The left wing has been what Julien termed a "pleasant surprise," showcasing his size and big-time shot. Julien acknowledged Marquardt must work on his skating and get quicker feet, but he was pleased with the progress he's made since July's development camp.
* There was approval all around in the dressing room this morning about Shawn Thornton's beatdown of Steve Begin. Earlier in the third period, Ryan Flinn had gotten the best of Jeremy Reich, while Begin had cracked Marc Savard in the back last year. "It was a good response," said Milan Lucic. "It was recognized."
Tonight's expected lineup:
Milan Lucic | Marc Savard | Michael Ryder |
Matt Marquardt | Maxime Sauve | Martins Karsums |
Mikko Lehtonen | Zach Hamill | Jordan Knackstedt |
Peter Schaefer | Stephane Yelle | Petteri Nokelainen |
Matt Hunwick | Dennis Wideman |
Matt Lashoff | Andrew Bodnarchuk |
Mark Stuart | Mike Egener |
Tuukka Rask |
Kevin Regan |

zomg....
Those are scary lines. The top line is scary good, the middle two are scary green, and the fourth is capable of scary checking.
The D is a touch suspect as well. I understand the reason for it, but much as i like Hunwick, the thought of him and Wideman as a top D pair is a touch suspect. I wish this were being televised so i could see the D. I suspect we could see a 1/3 turn over in the D.
Strange to see Schaefer and Nokelainen relegated to the fourth line... I would have expected to see them on the second line to give them more of a chance to display their skills and impress enough to make the team. After all, there is little doubt Schaefer will be on the team (his contract alone demands it) and Nokelainen was a help last season and I would imagine he would be ahead of Karsums or Sauve on the depth chart... kinda strange.
Fluto...Any Radio tonight?
Fluto, do you know if there will be any media coverage of tonights game?Last night was covered on Montreal radio, but I'm curious about a game without a Canadian host squad
Doh,
At a guess this is to give the two middle lines enough playing time to see who gets cut. And there is the chance of Schaefer being traded or waived before camp opens.
That ain't much of a lineup. The Islanders are bad but they aren't that bad.
Why can't someone just tell us if this is on the radio tonight??
Hey how bout the B's send out a line like this
Lucic Sobotka Wheeler
Every team in the NHL would be scared to face that line
Fluto, any reason why Chuck isn't playing?
Sanjeev,
I would _love_ that line. I think it should be backed upw with Stuart and Ward. :-D
