Injury disclosure

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff September 30, 2008 03:24 PM

At the NHL Board of Governors' meeting in June, the GMs voted to change the injury disclosure policy.

Here is the NHL release:

"Clubs no longer are required to disclose the specific nature of player injuries. Clubs are, however, required to disclose that a player is expected to miss a game due to injury, or will not return to a game following an injury. Clubs are prohibited from providing untruthful information about the nature of a player injury or otherwise misrepresenting a player's condition."

Claude Julien said he would be as specific as possible with injuries. Julien noted that he'd rather stay away from vague descriptions such as upper-body injury. But Julien also said he would not disclose injuries that could be targeted by opponents. Examples include a shoulder that could be banged or a knee that could be slashed.
