Bruins, 4-1 (final)

Because Tim Thomas has been slowed by a cold, Claude Julien tabbed Manny Fernandez for a second straight start. Fernandez didn't disappoint.

Fernandez stuffed 29 of 30 shots to backstop the Bruins to a 4-1 win over the defending Cup champs. The Bruins closed out November with an 11-1-1 record and 23 points, the most they've recorded in one month since they posted 24 in December, 1978.

"We're in sync," said Julien. "I'm standing behind the bench in the third period and I don't have to say much. The players are the guys yelling the things to guys on the ice on what they need to do."

Blake Wheeler, Phil Kessel, Chuck Kobasew, and David Krejci scored for the Bruins, who limited the Wings to five third-period shots.

  • Aaron Ward suffered a leg injury in the first period when he checked Derek Meech. Julien said Ward will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

  • Julien revealed that Patrice Bergeron had been bothered by a muscle pull that became aggravated whenever he took faceoffs. But Bergeron took seven draws and won five tonight, indicating that he's put the injury behind him.

  • Kessel (nine games), Krejci (six), and Kobasew (six) extended their point-scoring streaks.

  • The Bruins are off tomorrow. They will resume practicing on Monday at 11 a.m. at Ristuccia Arena.

STICK SALUTE: Dennis Wideman. No. 6 stepped into Ward's spot as Zdeno Chara's even-strength partner and led all skaters with 28:36 of ice time. Wideman also blocked a game-high four shots and assisted on Krejci's third-period goal.

SIN BIN: Ty Conklin. Should have stopped Kessel's goal and might have played Kobasew's strike more aggressively.

    1. Pretty damn good game for the home squad. As I was saying to my friend in Michigan as we IM'd during the game; The Bruins wanted it more, just look at the shots blocked.

Let's see how many points they can put up in December.

      Go! Go! Black and Gold!

    1. Fun to watch the Detroit fans walking out last night with that "what just happened" look on their faces! Welcome to the Eastern Conference finals Bruins fan.

    1. I agree conklin should have had kessel's shot, but he played kobasew's pretty well. Either way I think he gets a stick salute for letting in the goals
