Bruins, 6-4

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff November 19, 2008 08:48 PM

After 40 minutes of wild play here at TD Banknorth Garden, the Bruins have wiped out what was once a two-goal Buffalo lead and taken a two-score advantage of their own.

While holding Buffalo scoreless in the second period, the Bruins deposited three pucks behind Ryan Miller in the middle frame: a Zdeno Chara power-play one-timer, a Chuck Kobasew banker, and another Chara sizzler from the point. Miller had some sick numbers entering the night, but those will be taking a big-time tumble by game's end.

* Dennis Wideman, flattened by Toni Lydman with a hit that left the defenseman wobbly, looked fine when he returned to the ice after a visit to the dressing room. The Bruins can't afford to lose Wideman.

* Kobasew has replaced Marco Sturm (upper-body injury) on the No. 1 power-play unit, serving as net-front man. Kobasew has been far more effective than Sturm so far in that area.

* In the opening minute of the second, Aaron Ward blasted a point shot off the post.

* During a delayed interference penalty on Clarke MacArthur, it took Manny Fernandez approximately five seconds to notice Dave Jackson's arm in the air.

  1. Agreed on Kobasew's effectiveness down low. Much more physical player (as much as Roman Hamrlik would like to refute that), and twice got the puck cleanly to Savard on the half boards where it would've been in question whether Sturm could've done the same. When Sturm returns, I'd love to see him at the point on the 2nd PP, replacing Axelsson.
