  1. you've posted this several times and you've been wrong lately, I would assume first off is not playing tonight...

  1. Manny started yesterday against the Islanders. This ONLY makes sense if Thomas is injured. Please update, thanks.

  1. Hard to believe that Thomas, arguably the best goalie right now, would not start against the Red Wings, and, its the second of back-to-back games with Fernandez playing last night.

  1. Nesn has Thomas slated to start against Osgood.

  1. IF Fernandez gets the call tonight it doesn't necessarily mean that Thomas is hurt. While Thomas has been lights out so far this season, a lot of people forget Fernandez was a solid starting goaltender in Minnesota. Perhaps this is Julien's way of rewarding Manny for some spectacular work yesterday before the Bruins blew the doors off in the third.

  1. ONLY makes sense? Settle down.
If it was a noon game today I could see Thomas starting, but Fernandez has had ample chance to hydrate, eat and continue regular maintenance. The general rule of thumb for pro teams is the starter leaves practice first. That allows the skaters to have a target for a crease shoot-a-round at the end of the workout.

  1. This years Bruins have the most depth I have seen in a while, including the goal. They have 3 lines that on any given night play like a 1st line.

  1. YES...ONLY makes sense...

You don't start your backup goaltender at HOME against the defending Stanley Cup Champs after he started 24 hours prior to today's game UNLESS your #1 guy (and arguably, the top goaltender in the league at the moment) is either sick, injured, or had some last minute personal matters to tend to.

    Thanks for the link, Ryan.

  1. Fernandez being showcased perhaps?

Posted by Turk November 29, 08 01:08 PM
  1. Turk, I have to ask, are you THE Turk?

  1. This is shoddy journalism. If true, it seems that there should be SOMETHING written about why Thomas isn't starting. Instead we get such logic as 'if the crow flies east, Fernandez will start.'

I am not the official Bruins blogger but I guarantee Thomas starts against Detroit.

  1. The general rule is the starting goaltender leaves the ice first. Isn't alway the case but as Fluto points out, it indicates that Fernandez would be the starter. Quit being an ass, "shoddy journalism"

Tim was on the bench last night, no one has been called up so it seems unlikely Timmy is hurt. I agree that Timmy seems to be the logical choice. Manny didn't even play that well yesterday, could be a smokescreen, could be Manny had an equipment problem in practice, or as Turk pointed out they could be showcasing Manny for a trade .. who knows. CJ likes to keep close mouthed about these things, we won't know until game time ... so just relax.

  1. If Fernandez starts tonight...

It's not going to happen....any time Fernandez is challenged (other then the lucky save vs guiren yesterday) he's going to allow a goal and they are going to be challenging all night. Also, Fernandez is the SLOWEST person going from post to post when a play is behind the net and I'm sure Detroit would exploit that.

    Play Thomas...give yourself a chance

  1. i need to know who is startin i got thomas and fernandez... and osgood and conklin in fantasy tonight

  1. Wow...lots of hate for Fernandez. Not sure why seeing as how his record is 6-0-1 since losing his first start of the season.

rockstareh - you said Fernandez didn't play that well yesterday but I'd argue the set of big saves he made in the third off Guerin just a minute or so before Wheeler's goal was a clutch moment in the game. Opie you call it luck, but Fernandez had save percentages of .924, .915, .919, and .919 in the four season before he signed with Boston.

Thomas is the better goalie in Boston but don't forget that workhorses Brodeur, Luongo, and Nabokov have all gone down or are currently sidelined this season. You need to rest your number one so he i fresher for the Stanley Cup run.

  1. I would assume Osgood vs Thomas. Osgood wasn't busy last night so might get some work tonight. Thomas, well, it wouldn't make sense not to play Thomas tonight, top stats in the league for goalies...come on.

  1. Tim Thomas is starting tonight, Trust me, if anyone knows, it's me.

  1. Hey jjmac420x .... Here's a good link to use for checking which goalies are playing on any given day.... http://goaliepost.com/ - I use it for my fantasy teams and it's helped a lot. It's definitely not 100% accurate. They're calling this game "probable" for Conklin/Fernandez, but they're citing this blog as one of the sources of their information, and as we all know, it's up in the air. I bet if Detroit starts Osgood, Timmy will start, and vice versa.

  1. Fernandez will start, not because Tim is hurt....it's because he is a very good goalie that won last night (keep the hot hand going) and he also (don't forget) had more starts vs. the Red Wings due to him being in Minnesota. Simple as that. Believe me...I am praying that we thump them tonight but you know what....isn't it great that they SEEM to be back on track?!!
