Just another game?

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff November 29, 2008 12:13 PM

Yet again, the Wings will be facing an opponent tonight that is eager to stack itself up against the defending champs.

"Every night we play in the league, when you read the clips before, it's a 'measuring game.' It's a 'measuring-stick game,' " said Detroit's Mike Babcock. "This is our 23d measuring-stick game for the other team. Every night is for us. It's going to be fun for us."

"I think," Babcock continued, "when I watch all the teams in the league right now, the two teams that seem to be the most excited and all playing together are Boston and San Jose. Those are the two teams for me."

  • Despite their three-loss season so far, Babcock said he doesn't think his club is firing on all cylinders yet.

  • On the other side, Claude Julien said tonight's game will be a good test for the Bruins. "Right now, I think it's a great way to show that we are a good team, but also with the type of talent that team has on the other side, a puck-possession team, it's going to be a good test for us," Julien said.

  • The Bruins will wear their third jerseys again tonight.

    Anticipated lineup:

    Milan Lucic
    Marc Savard
    Phil Kessel
    P.J. Axelsson
    Patrice Bergeron
    Chuck Kobasew
    Blake Wheeler
    David Krejci
    Michael Ryder
    Petteri Nokelainen
    Stephane Yelle
    Shawn Thornton
    Zdeno Chara
    Aaron Ward
    Matt Hunwick
    Dennis Wideman
    Mark Stuart
    Shane Hnidy
    Manny Fernandez
    Tim Thomas

    1. Wouldn't mind seeing Axelsson and Wheeler flipped in this lineup.

    1. i agree with those who think Shanahan would be a good get for The Bruins. If the Bruins don't grab Shanny, a team from their Conference (Flyers) - if not their Division (Canadiens)) - surely will.

and, no, MM, not THAT Turk

    1. Bergy won't center the second line tonight, has an injury plaguing him that doesn't allow him to take face offs.

    1. The way Wheeler and Krejci are clicking? WHY?

    1. Krejci has been the catalyst to Wheeler stepping his game up, so I like this move...

    1. who saw that move wheeler put on yesterday??? it's been years and years since the Bruins had players with skills like that. This team is so great to watch!

    1. Wheeler's was an awesome move -- he did it right in front of me. All I'm saying is that Bergy could use someone making some room for him. I'll bet they'd click pretty good together, too.

Or maybe Axie will start throwing his weight around.

    1. Thank god, Peter Chiarelli didn't trade Phil Kessel at the deadline last season!!! Wideman's new contract was worth every penny...

    1. If the B's grab Shany, who would he knock out of the line-up? Hey, when was the last time the B's treated us to a couple of 7 goal game within a week? This team is clicking, there is no need to add a Shanahan....especialy just to keep him out of Philly!
As for the game tonite, I think the B's will match up pretty good to the Wings, except I think our grit will beat them , just like the Habs. Than again, it worries me that manny is starting again..................did he really earn this start??

    1. I'd say Manny earned that start.

No reason to pick up shanahan. If you do, you have to dump someone. Who? This team is flying as it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
