Injury update

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff December 23, 2008 05:36 PM

* Andrew Ference (tibia) is due to start skating soon. Ference, injured against Montreal on Nov. 13, was originally expected to miss 6-8 weeks. But he is considered ahead of schedule and should be back in the lineup in January.

* Marco Sturm, who injured his knee last Thursday, is still experiencing swelling, which could indicate a need for surgery to fix the damage.

* Aaron Ward (ankle) is close to returning. Ward will most likely travel with the team on its three-game road trip to close out 2008.

* Petteri Nokelainen (upper body) is also improving. He and Ward have been skating back home.
