Veteran blueliner Shane Hnidy, the area around his left eye a bruised and stitched mess from a shot he took to the face last week, was on the ice here for the 10:30 a.m. start of today's workout.

During initial drills, Hnidy, wearing a visor, skated at right D, with fellow vet Aaron Ward at left D.

Newbie Kevin Regan, just recalled from the Providence WannaB's, is in one net. All-Star bound Tim Thomas, the winner Sat. vs. the Candy Canes, worked the other cage.

No sign on the ice of veteran backliner Andrew Ference, who early last week appeared on track to be back soon. He underwent surgery on a broken leg in mid-November, and his return was pegged then for mid-January.

No word on why Manny Fernandez, subbed as the backup on Sat. by Tuukka Rask, remains unable to put on the pads.

No sign, obviously, of Patrice Bergeron, who is now three-plus weeks beyond his most recent concussion. Bergeron said on Friday that he is symptom-free and confident that he will play again in 2008-'09.

Otherwise, lines looked like this:

Chuck Kobasew-Marc Savard-Phil Kessel
P.J. Axelsson-Stephane Yelle-Martin St. Pierre
Blake Wheeler-David Krejci-Michael Ryder
Shawn Thornton-Petteri Nokelainen-Byron Bitz.
