Bruins turn into sunshine dawgs

Posted by Kevin Paul Dupont, Globe Staff February 18, 2009 10:58 AM

Your faithful puck chronicler is headed back tot he Hub of Hockey this morning, with wingman Fluto Shinzawa headed south to join the vacationing Bruins in the sunshine.

It's a split squad today in Sunshine, FL, where a bunch of the B's will hit the links (will Phil Kessel try that inside-out-inside approach to every green?), and the rest will board a fishing boat (all keepers must be black or gold and at least the length of a stickblade).

Update on Ray Bourque: he has been in Moncton, New Brunswick, the last few days to be at the side of his ailing father. The junior Bourque intended to be here in Raleigh, N.C., last night for Glen Wesley's on-ice retirement fete, but more pressing matters in Moncton kept him from making the trip.

  1. As long as this "brek" will benefit !! go ahead guys and have fun and collect at least 3 points in Florida.

    Questions (be honnest);

I would have tell you last September, that the B's would be the first NHL team to collect it's 40th victory this season... what would have been your reaction?

The B's would collect their 40th victory by mid- february (and could have been done deal by early-February)...what would have been your reaction?

  1. KPD,

Thanks for taking care of all tings bloggy the past few days in your travels to Research Triangleland. I would like to get your take on all things Kovalev in Les Habitant nation. Is it just doghouse time or is he being offered around the league? And what does it say about the Canadians?

    Thanks!

  1. Best wishes to Ray & his family. Thanks for the update KPD, we were wondering what happened when it was announced Ray wouldn't be at Wesley's retirement ceremony last night.

  1. Your hatred of Phil Kessel is only slightly more pathetic than your blatant trolling on the HFboards.

  1. How come whenever the bruins get that special type of player, ie... Joe Thorton and now Phil Kessel, all you do is hate on them. Yet you stick up for thr Glen Murrays of the world through countless season long slumps. So Phil has had trouble since coming back, he has been doing all the little things you pointed out with murray. Yes Phils is paid to score goals, but he is a steaky scorer much like Marco sturm, ryder and kobasew. Yet you wouldn't dare talk about veterans. You wouldn't dare point out when lucic or krejci is not playing well. You wouldn't dare say anything bad about the "norris trophy" candadite Z Chara (even though he isn't even our best defensmen). Let's be honest. U and the bruins hate young stars who aren't "grinders". You need Phil to win and be on the top PP. When he leaves this summer to a big contract don't call him selfish. Call yourself and the bruins blind!!!

  1. I like Kessel as much as anyone (he and I even have the same bday), but his play of late has been awful. That curl-and-drag move is 0 for it's last 30 or so, and when he can actually get a shot on net, he's good at hitting the goalie right in the chest.

This team needs Phil to find his shot before the playoffs, and badly. To have your top goal scorer get ice cold is absolutely devastating.

  1. Give it a rest people, KPD is right Kessel has one move and it doesn't work!!!! Stop being homers and watch the games, then you'll see what the rest of the league now sees!!!

  1. The problem with Kessel is that if he's not scoring he's not effective. He can't bang bodies or eat up time low in the offensive zone,he's easily knocked off the puck.
Everybody in the league has seen him come down the right side and offer up his "move". Pavel Datsyuk could be back on D and stop him.I watch Phil and think Samsonov all over again ( hit the offensive zone at top speed on the left side curl back at the top of the circle, get knocked off the puck, turn over) At least Sergei had a little better size as where he could be more effective down low.
I like Phil and it's good to see him back check and play a full sheet of ice this year but if he doesn't get the puck on twine he's not really a plus.
