Morning briefing

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff February 7, 2009 11:21 AM

Good morning from TD Banknorth Garden, where the Bruins will host Philadelphia this afternoon. This is the Garden debut for old friends Andrew Alberts and Glen Metropolit as Flyers.

Some tidbits from the game notes:

* Mike Richards and Scottie Upshall, both slowed by flu-like symptoms, didn't travel to Boston yesterday. It's unknown whether either forward traveled today in time to make the game.

* The Bruins are aiming for their 40th win today in their 54th game. If they come out on top, it would be the fastest of any Bruin team to the 40-win stage. They have posted 40 victories in 55 games twice (1973-74 and 1970-71).

* Philly has four players on injured reserve: Derian Hatcher, Josh Gratton, Jonathon Kalinski, and Danny Briere.

* The Flyers have the second-best PP in the league (24 percent), one slot ahead of the Bruins (23.7 percent).

* Dan O'Halloran and Tim Peel will be the referees. Brian Murphy and Derek Nansen will be the linesmen.

  1. Also: if they pick up two points today, they will be on pace for over 130 points this season. Although their schedule is considerably tougher the rest of the year...
