David Krejci will need offseason hip surgery. (Jim Davis / Globe File)

Each day this week we'll feature one player video from the end-of-the-year breakup session the Bruins held today at the TD Banknorth Garden. Up first, David Krejci, who revealed today that he played the entire 2008-09 season with a torn labrum in his hip, an injury that will require offseason surgery and 4-6 months of recovery.

Click HERE to watch the video with Krejci. Or check out some written highlights below.

  • (On being limited by the injury): "There wasn't one day it didn't bother me this year. Every day I woke up, every move I did, I knew there was something wrong. There was only one place I really felt comfortable and that was on the ice. The trainers did a good job. It was the only place I felt comfortable."

  • (On when he knew the injury was serious): "When it happened at (training) camp, I thought it was just a pulled groin. Everybody has that. Then it got a little better and, when it came time to play, the first couple of games were fine. Then it came back again. It was two weeks, then it got really bad. Then one week it went away, got much better... then it came back again. In the middle of the season, we did an MRI and then we saw (the injury). So we knew surgery (would be needed) after the season. We didn't talk about it that much, we just decided to play it out."

  • (On his recovery): "Four to six months, so basically I'm going to miss the first part of the season... I'm going to have a lot to do. I'm going to be here all summer with (the Bruins' training staff)... I hope I'll be even better than I was this year because you go to the game and you know something is bothering you. It's in your head and you think about it.... I just wanted to get through the games. I believe that, once it's done, I'll be ready to go."

Krejci, a 23-year-old center who finished second on the team this winter with 73 points (22 goals, 51 assists), also noted that he will meet with Dr. Bryan Kelly, the same New York doctor who operated on Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell.

  1. Seriously? He played the whole season hurt? The Bruins may luck out on this. They can't possibly account for his being injured when they come up with a salary for him, so he could turn out to be a bargain.

  1. The last thing I'm thinking about right now is bargains and salaries. All the props and kudos in the world to David Krejci. Heart like a lion.

  1. I like this guy more and more everyday. If they can get him resigned this summer I want to get rid of my older style jersey I'll be getting Krejci jersey.

Also I like that hes getting it at the same place as Lowell, we've all seen how well Lowell has come back after his surgery, he looks great.

  1. I really don't feel sorry for Peter Chiarelli and the hockey GMs- they get to deal with guys who are pretty cool. I feel sorry for Bill Belichick, who has to deal with whiny jerks like Ty Law, Asante Samuel, and Ellis Hobbs. Just goes to show you that we have a whiny society. Kudos to the Canadiens and Czechs for keepin' it real... Hockey players, unlike basketball players, bring it every game and every shift. Paul Pierce is a whiny brat compared to these guys...

  1. Krejci had a great November along with his linemate Wheeler. But you don't win Cups in November. Certainly re-sign him but with a hip problem at 21 I would not break the bank with him. Personally, I consider him slightly overrated at this point
