Four skating

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff May 11, 2009 11:22 AM

WILMINGTON -- Blake Wheeler, Marco Sturm, Matt Hunwick, and Manny Fernandez are the only players skating at Ristuccia Arena this morning.

It remains to be seen whether the rest of the team will hit the ice today before leaving for Raleigh.

UPDATE: The rest of the team is going through off-ice workouts.

  1. Hopefully this is the extent of the ice time Wheeler gets the rest of this postseason. Bitz is a much better forechecker and hitter than Wheeler, and actually plays his size. If Wheeler isn't scoring, he's useless. GO B'S! And hope Ward is ok.

  1. Fluto, any word on Ward? Is he at the rink? Any idea when we will hear something?

  1. Next round? People we still have business to finish. Don't look any further ahead than Tuesday night. We need to put forth the same performance as last night. We need consistency!

  1. No, don't think Sturm will be returning anytime soon.
I'm more concerned with our defense. Wheeler won't be coming in anytime soon.
    GO BRUINS !!

  1. For the record, there are two Joe P's. I posted the Wheeler/Bitz comment. The second comment was butchered by another Joe P...

  1. Enough with the posts about Sturm and Hunwick returning. Are you guys thick? Do you think Sturm will return for the next round of the playoffs? First of all, we have to win tomorrow night on the road just to stay alive in this round! The guy just started skating a few weeks ago and is coming of an ACL injury. I’ll assume you’ve never had one since you would post something so ridiculous. It’s a pretty hard injury to come back from. Not the kind of injury you can sit for 5 months, skate for a few weeks and then jump in to full fledged play-off hockey. You lose a substantial amount of leg strength when you blow out a knee. Its not even close to being like a broke bone, a la Andrew Ference (and we see how his returns to the line-up have gone). The guy will not come back this year. End of story. But that Aside, it kills me to read idiotic statements like that when we’re down in a series. How about, “OMG, will Aaron ward play tomorrow night, or will we call some one up and who would they call up?”

That said, I was happy to see the B’s skating and setting the tone last night instead of reacting Carolina’s play from the last few games and letting them set the tone. Keep it up and we could have one more home game this year!

  1. "Marcow Sturme" nice one, pink hat!

  1. Dear Rabb,

I'm fairly sure, after that diatribe, that the only thick one here is yourself.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sarcasm might make things a bit clearer to you, but no promises.

  1. I bet you guys that Marcow will play tomorrow vs the Hurrecanes. Its the Bruins secret weapin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why dont teh Bruins call up Matte Lashiff to play in Ward's spot?!

    Posted by Joe P May 11, 09 12:02 PM
  1. I agree with Rabb - who would the most likely call up be on defense?? Johnny Boychuk? I don't know anything about him or any of the other possibilities I am embarrased to say.

The Bruins looked great last night but this series is still Carolina's to win. The B's need to play each shift as if it is their last and win each period. Raleigh has proved to be a very difficult place to play and they will need a big effort and maybe some luck to pull it out. I like the B's chances if the series comes back to Boston on Thur.

  1. I'm pretty sure the whole "Marcow Sturme returning" post was meant to be facetious. I know I laughed, especially considering I was going to make a similar mock post about the possibilty of Sturm returning. Relax :)

  1. Any word on Ward? How quickly can they cobble together a full face cage? That dude HAS to be wearing a spoked B on Tuesday night. The thought of a Monty/Boychuck pairing scares me silly.
Anybody else less than satisfied trading Walker for Ward(assuming the suspension is upheld and extended)? This is BS. Bruins need to wait for the right situation to 'finish' a hit on Staal. Heh -- maybe Boychuck.

  1. I know Jack Edwards isn't a fan favorite universally, but how awful was the Versus guy last night? I didn't go, and instead watched on TV. At least four or five times a Bruin pasted a Cane (and a couple times it was Chara laying a huge lick on Staal), yet it went unmentioned by the play-by-play guy. I found myself envisioning Jack's head exploding and shouting out some insane, unintelligible catch-phrase involving a chain saw, an axe, Eric Staal, and six bags of concrete. You know what? I kinda missed Jack last night. That was his kinda game. Let's bring it back home on Thursday boys, if only so Jack can implode from the excitement of every Lucic hit.

  1. I agree about the play-by-play guy. On the Savard-to-Kessel goal (amazing pass by the way) he called it as "pinballing" in. Just admit that it was an incredible pass + shot for christs sake.

  1. My lord Joey you need help! I was more aggrevated with Versus showing no replays of Penalties or big hits so they can promote Ovechkin vs. Crosby tonight. Can we bring the good ol' homer Dale Arnold out of retirement for a night?
Over and Under, Over and Under... is he placing bets?

  1. Joe P, want to know the reason why? The play by play last night was John Forslund who is the Hurricanes local TV play by play, he used to do the Whalers as well. Interesting pairing him up with Brickley huh.

Jeff that little kid is the one they show in the montages every game and when he did that last night the building erupted, the kid is famous now! haha

  1. Unless its Doc all of the VS play by play guys are terrible. I'm 50 50 on Jack but i'll take him any day over what i experienced last night.

  1. MARKO STRUM! The broons would win this NO DOUBT i he was back. Remember his face after scoring in game 6 vs hab? CARNAGE

  1. I always look forward to Jack Edwards/Andy Brickley -- I love Edwards' excitement and particular phrasing of things. Brickley brings personal experience and he's articulate. They're a great combo that I've come to really appreciate given all of the other announcers that I've heard throughout the year.

Brickley at least balanced Forslund's banality last night -- imagine being stuck with just Hurricanes commentary which those of us outside of Boston (in the US) have had to suffer. However, since it means I'll get to see the Bruins play another day, I'll suck it up and tune in to whoever carries the game on Tuesday.

Amazingly, it looks like we'll be seeing Walker again. Let's hope they can find some way to allow Ward to safely play, too. .

  1. I thought the Carolina guy did a decent job of calling the game down the middle. He even seemed genuinely disgusted with the hack on Chara and the sucker punch on Ward.

I still prefer Jack Edwards, but I can at least listen to him. The puke who uses the phrases "stab the puck", "knife the puck" forty times a game makes me want to choke him. The the next time I hear the chump say "The penalty is expired, the teams are now at full and even strength."
I may have to drive to the rink and run through my McSorley, C. Lemieux, Brashear, Begin, Pronger impersonations. GAH!
