GM Peter Chiarelli, who agreed to a four-year extension yesterday, spoke about his new deal today at TD Banknorth Garden.

"When you're a manager and have to make 100 decisions a day on certain things, you really appreciate the support from ownership when it comes to doing certain things," Chiarelli said. "There are a lot of decisions that are made, and a lot of decisions that are made not to do things that you don't hear about. It makes things a lot easier. From where you've seen the team grow over the last few years, I think that speaks volumes to the strength of ownership."

The extension kicks in after Chiarelli serves the fourth and final year of his current contract in 2009-10. Chiarelli is now under contract to serve as GM through 2013-14.

* Chiarelli said he will sit down with Claude Julien soon to work on an extension for the Bruins coach. Julien will be entering the third and final year of his current contract.

* The GM's next moves include negotiating with Phil Kessel, Matt Hunwick, and Byron Bitz on contract extensions. Chiarelli declined to comment on any negotiations.
