No invites for Stuart, Wheeler

Posted by Fluto Shinzawa, Globe Staff June 30, 2009 01:14 PM

While Tim Thomas and Phil Kessel were named to the US Olympic Orientation Camp today, Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler will not be joining their Boston teammates in Illinois in August.

Stuart and Wheeler were darkhorses to attend the camp. The two Minnesota natives, along with Michigander Matt Hunwick, could be under consideration for the 2014 Olympics. That is, if the NHL releases its players for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

  1. Hmm, I'd take Stuart of Komisarek, and not just because the latter is a 'twit', and while I understand the need for leadership, why Modano he had a poor showing last year, is it just so they can have someone on the team who was drafted before the youngest player was born? Wheeler (if he pulls his head out of backside) is likely to score a hell of a lot more and can aggressively kill penalties.

Good goal tending if Miller can stay healthy.

  1. Under the heading "Unsung Hero," there is a picture of Mark Stuart! Steady, reliable, physical. Hope he stays a Bruin for the rest of his playing career. Komisarek over Stuart? Hmm! Must be one of those cases where Stuart's so consistent in his play, he often flies under the radar.
