Boston goalie Tim Thomas, who recently picked up his Vezina trophy as the NHL's No. 1 goaltender in 2008-'09, today is expected to be named to the Team USA Olympic training camp roster.

Fellow Bruin (at least for the moment) Phil Kessel could be named, too, but the speedy righ winger is still recovering from recent shoulder surgery and likely would not be able to participate in on-ice drills.

The camp will be held Aug. 17-19, at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Ill, about a half-hour to the west of Chicago. The 2010 Games will be held next February in Vancouver.

On Monday, local boys John Tortorella and Scott Gordon, the former coach of the AHL Providence Bruins, were named as the USA assistant coaches under Ron Wilson.

Kessel, nearly dealt to the Maple Leafs on Friday in a deal that fell through just prior to the annual NHL draft, becomes a restricted free agent as of noon tomorrow, unless he signs a new deal with the Bruins.
