Growing close to game time here at the Garden, where the Bruins will face the Jackets in the final pre-season tuneup for both squads.

The Bruins will skate tonight without Marco Sturm, Steve Begin and David Krejci--three forwards who will be regulars with the varsity this season. Strum and Begin are nursing minor training camp injuries while Krejci is still making his way back from off-season hip surgery.

Johnny Boychuk, who will skate in the warmup, will be the lone scratch on defense. He is expected to make the varsity as the No. 7 defenseman.

Coach Claude Julien, noting that management was going through the process of trimming the roster ''right now'', said that the club intended to ''cut down to a smaller [roster] number by tomorrow.''
