The Bruins trimmed their roster back to 24, one or two more than they intend to carry this season, just minutes before game time.

As previously reported, they placed Drew Fata, Drew Larman, Guillaume Lefebvre, Dany Sabourin, Trent Whitfield and Andy Wozniewski on waivers. All of them will be assigned to Providence, said GM Peter Chiarelli, provided they aren't claimed by another NHL club by noon on Monday.

Prior to placing him on waivers, the club signed Lefebvre to a one-year contract. ''He has a good amount of toughness and some size,'' said Chiarelli. ''So we made the decision to sign him.''

Also shipped to Providence: Mikko Lehtonen, Jeff LoVecchio, Adam McQuaid and Kirk MacDonald.
