The Blue Jackets opened the scoring with 2:42 gone in the first, Matt Calvert connecting with help from Derek Dorsett and Andy Murray.

The Bruins bounced back with the equalizer at 7:03, with Vladimir Sobotka snapping off a quick wrister from the inner edge of the left circle. Michael Ryder, behind the goal line, dished to Milan Lucic at the half board and Looch dished toward the slot for Sobotka.

The first period ended in the 1-1 deadlock, with each side collecting eight shots.
