A first-rate night for Bruins, NESN
The Bruins were winners in their first telecast of season on NESN. So was the network.
NESN earned a 3.9 household rating in the Boston designated market area for Saturday night's 7-2 victory over the Hurricanes, the team that ousted them from the Stanley Cup playoffs last season. It was the network's highest-rated opening broadcast on NESN in the network's 25 years of airing the team's games.
The 3.9 rating was also the highest average household rating recorded in the Boston;s DMA during the game’s 7-10 p.m. window, besting all other broadcast and cable networks.
The game was actually the second of the season for the Bruins -- they opened two nights earlier against the Capitals in a game broadcast on the Versus network.
The network's previous high rating for a season-opening broadcast came on Jan. 23, 1995, when the network earned a 3.8 rating.
