US Olympic roster to be announced during Winter Classic

Posted by Chad Finn, Globe Staff November 3, 2009 12:09 PM

USA Hockey announced today that the roster for its 2010 United States Olympic men's ice hockey team will be revealed during NBC's telecast of the NHL Winter Classic between the Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers on January 1 at Fenway Park.

Goalie Tim Thomas was the lone member of the Bruins to participate in Team USA’s 34-player orientation camp, which took place August 17-19 in Woodbridge, Ill. He is a candidate for one of the three goaltender spots on the US roster.

The US team will compete at the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C. The men's ice hockey competition begins on Feb. 16 -- with the US facing Switzerland in its opener -- and concludes with the Gold Medal game on Feb. 28.
